The R&D Application Technologist is responsible for research and development of food and beverage applications and carrying out administrative needs of the Barentz Application Lab.
Essential Duties and responsibilities
Research & Development (R&D) of Food and Beverage (F&B)Applications:
- Design, execute, and document experiments to evaluate ingredient functionality, performance, and suitability in various F&B categories (beverages, dairy, bakery, confectionery, savory, etc.).
- Accurately record, analyze, and report experimental data, results, and project outcomes in a timely manner.
- Develop innovative prototypes, concepts, and application solutions that showcase ingredient benefits and address market needs.
- Support and execute the research, development, and optimization of food and beverage applications.
- Prepare and present technical demonstrations, samples, and application data to internal stakeholders, customers and principals.
- Stay current with F&B market trends, consumer preferences, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies relevant to assigned categories.
- Conduct market researchand document on trends relevantto F&B ingredients, applications and technologies.
Administrative Supportfor the Barentz's Application Lab:
- Develop, update, and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and quality documentation.
- Support lab management activities including inventory control, ordering of raw materials and supplies, and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Assist in organizational tasks related to the operationof the Application Lab.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the Application Lab in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
Technical Support:
- Maintain and update the internal technical database and knowledge-sharing platforms with the latest application data and insights.
- Contribute to the creation of technical and marketing assets, including presentations, application guides, videos, brochures, and trade show materials.
- Participate in internal training sessions, customer visits, and industry events as required.
- Provide expert technical support to the sales team, including formulation recommendations, troubleshooting, and application guidance.
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Qualifications include:
- A degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related degreesrequired.
- Have knowledge and experience in R&D and/orproduct development in F&B.
- 2-5 years of food industry experience
- Driver's license and access to a vehicleis an asset.
- Self-motivated, high energy,and organized
- Effective English writingand verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt communication style to the audience as needed
- Software knowledge of Microsoft Officeincluding Outlook, Word,Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Act legally and ethically in all professional relationships in adherencewith Barentz' values and fundamentals
