Organization Overview The Mel Jr.&Marty Zajac Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, located in Vancouver, BC, whose mandate is to support children, seniors and those with special needs through innovative community projects focused on developing lifelong skills and independence. Our current major focus is Zajac Ranch, a camp in Mission, BC, for children with chronic, life‑threatening and/or debilitating conditions.
Located on the shores of Stave Lake in Mission, BC, just one hour east of Vancouver, Zajac Ranch is situated on over 41 acres of pristine forested land. During the summer months, Zajac Ranch provides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life‑threatening and/or debilitating conditions. In the off-season, Zajac Ranch welcomes school groups and private rentals. Revenue raised from site rentals goes to supporting Zajac Ranch medical summer camps.
Location: Zajac Ranch, Mission, BC. Reports To: Chef/Kitchen Manager. Employment Type: Part-time, seasonal. Compensation: $25 - $30 (commensurate with experience).
Position Summary The Zajac Ranch Cook position reports to the Chef/Kitchen Manager and is responsible for supporting the food preparation needs of the Dining Hall which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner for groups from 20 people to a maximum of 120 people. Current dining hall food service format is buffet style for summer camps, private and public schools, site rentals, weddings, retreats, conferences and special events.
Key Responsibilities
Food preparation and food production for meal service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including barbecues and cookouts.
Provide culinary assistance with special events such as weddings and conferences.
Effectively attend to guest preferences and requests such as special diets and food allergies.
Follow standards for food presentation and quality, as well as kitchen safety and sanitation.
Ensure proper maintenance/operation of kitchen equipment.
Qualifications&Experience
5 years culinary experience required
Serving and food preparation Safety Certificates an asset
Culinary training an asset
Well organized with excellent multi-tasking and communication skills
Excellent time management skills
A positive attitude
Highly adaptable
Health&Safety
Follow all WorkSafeBC regulations and Ranch safety protocols
Use cookware, chemicals and equipment safely and appropriately
Maintain infection prevention and sanitation standards
Report hazards immediately
Skills&Competencies
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Time management and organizational skills
Physical stamina (lifting, bending, standing for extended periods)
Commitment to cleanliness and safety standards
Ability to follow detailed checklists and procedures
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
Frequent bending, lifting, standing, and walking
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
Work Environment
May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays during peak periods
Camp and rentals facility setting
Seasonal fluctuations in workload
Must have own reliable transportation
Must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
