JOB SUMMARY : Reporting to the Youth Services Manager/Coordinator, the Summer Camp-Recreation and Leisure Supervisor is responsible for the onsite, day-to-day operation of our Summer Day Camp. The Supervisor leads the development, coordination, implementation, and facilitation of activities planned with a balance of recreational and enrichment components that meet the developmental needs of participants aged 6 to 12 years. These activities help participants develop and strengthen physical and social skills through collaborative play. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the development, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of all Summer Camp activities Provide regular, ongoing coaching and feedback for employees, volunteers, and placement students, setting expectations and standards Lead debriefing meetings at the completion of each day, in preparation for the next days planned activities Guide staff and volunteer leadership building opportunities facilitated through peer-to-peer support Support Camp Leaders as they supervise participants or complete tasks as may be required. Be knowledgeable in personal strengths, the strengths of team members, and program participants Assess and displays sensitivity to the emotional well-being of program staff, volunteers, placement students, and participants Provide input and participate in the process of evaluating and correcting employees in consultation with the Youth Services Manager/Program Lead Proactively manage crises and emergency situations with critical thinking, de-escalate and manage conflict effectively, and solve problems creatively Ensure program site, equipment, and spaces are organized and in safe, working order after use Identify and inform the Youth Services Manager/Program Lead of issues that may affect camp delivery, escalating areas of risk Demonstrate a transparent understanding of the location and proper use of emergency equipment (including exits, First Aid Kits, fire extinguishers, and AED units), and effectively follow all program site emergency procedures, including evacuations. QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of post-secondary education with, or actively pursuing a Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education, Recreation & Leisure Services, Child Youth Care, Education, Social Service Worker, a related Human Service program, or related experience in a relevant field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent Minimum two (2) years of experience working directly with children Experience working with underserved children and families from an equitable, anti-oppressive framework Experience in child-based program design, development, implementation, and facilitation Knowledge of developmental needs of school age children Knowledge and understanding of the youth experience, the assets children possess, and the difficulties children may face Demonstrated experience working with children from various cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, and developmental backgrounds Proficiency in English and an additional language considered a strong asset, demonstrating effective communication skills, both oral and written Utilizes a proactive approach to potential problems and creates opportunities for positive change Excellent communicator with proven ability to interact, form lasting relationships with, and gain trust of colleagues, children, and families Solid leadership ability, coaching, and developing direct reports Able to effectively collaborate in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment Good organizational skills, able to easily adapt to change, and multi-task while maintaining a high level of accuracy in data collection Strong computer skills in Windows, Microsoft Office applications, and the Internet Strong professional boundaries and self-care routines Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED, HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development, and ASIST certificates are considered assets Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.ca/job/2ow7m1
