Student Indigenous Relations Coordinator
Location: Orillia, Ontario. Term: 4, 8, or 12 months starting September2026. Responsibilities
Act as liaison between the organization and Indigenous communities, participating in community engagement activities and facilitating open communication channels. Assist in organizing and participating in events, workshops, and cultural activities that promote understanding, appreciation, and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and history.Research Indigenous policies and best practices to support the development and implementation of effective engagement and relationship‑building strategies. Collaborate with internal teams to integrate Indigenous perspectives, values, and knowledge into organizational initiatives, projects, and policies.Support the development and delivery of educational materials, training sessions, and resources to enhance awareness and sensitivity among staff regarding Indigenous perspectives and issues. Build and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to foster trust, collaboration, and mutual understanding.Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a university, college, or trade program. Will complete at least one additional semester after the co‑op. Experience in Indigenous community engagement, advocacy, or related work is an asset. Experience in event planning or coordination of cultural activities. Proficiency in data entry and maintaining records, databases, or information systems.Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for report generation, data analysis, and presentation preparation. Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change occurs frequently. Ability to forge, grow, and maintain positive relationships. Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals. Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude. Residency or a valid work permit that allows employment with Bird Construction or its subsidiaries.
