Job Summary The Provincial Access Officer is responsible for the preparation and coordination of organizational responses in compliance with applicable privacy and access legislations, including the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 (ATIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). In addition, the incumbent will facilitate responses to investigations and inquiries from the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate, the Office of the Citizens' Representative, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner and other organizations where a statutory right to information is asserted. Reporting to the Provincial Senior Manager of Privacy, the Provincial Access Officer will collate and review all internal documents for each request; liaise with senior managers regarding the duty and process related to the ATIPPA and applicable statutory authorities; facilitate meetings with relevant stakeholders to ensure legislative duties are achieved; provide direction on access to information initiatives; encourage an organizational culture in accordance with access and privacy; and perform other related duties as assigned within the department.
Job Qualifications Education
Bachelor's Degree
Master's Degree preferred
Access and Privacy Certificate or Access and Privacy Certification (e.g. CIPP, CIPM) would be an asset.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years progressive management experience and knowledge of legislation is required.
Experience in privacy and/or disclosure of information in accordance with access legislation is an asset.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills&Abilities)
Knowledge of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA)
Demonstrated ability to foster positive working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Demonstrated effective time management skills.
Demonstrated a high level of independence, critical thinking, sound judgement and decision making skills.
