Classification: n/a Grid: n/a Posting Date: May 13, 2026 Closing Date: May 20, 2026 Job Posting: Development and Communications Intern Organization: Island Crisis Care Society (ICCS) Location: Nanaimo and Oceanside, Vancouver Island Wage: $19.00/hr for 30 hours per week for 9 weeks About Us: Island Crisis Care Society has been dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, and mental health challenges in Nanaimo and Oceanside for over 30 years. Adopting a Housing First Philosophy, ICCS aims to provide shelter and care, enabling clients to focus on personal improvement and independence. Our mission is to offer a ‘continuum of care’ through creative housing strategies and comprehensive support programs, ensuring that clients receive the necessary assistance at every stage of their recovery journey. ICCS operates 13 programs across 10 housing sites, supporting up to 276 clients daily. Our services range from crisis stabilization at facilities like Crescent House and Safe Harbour to long-term supportive housing at Orca Place and Samaritan Place. Specialized services are provided at The Bridge for those with complex care needs, while transitional housing like Mary’s Place assists clients on their path to independent living. Additionally, our outreach programs and subsidized housing options aid clients in reintegrating into the community. Beyond housing, ICCS offers programs such as Life Skills for Community Connection Program, which provide skills training and work experience, helping clients overcome barriers to employment and achieve sustainable recovery. Position: Resource Development Intern Role Overview: Island Crisis Care Society (ICCS) is seeking a creative and motivated Resource Development Intern to support our communications and fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Resource Development Manager, this intern will play a key role in increasing our social media presence and developing a print and digital fundraising campaign that resonates across diverse demographics. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of social media strategy, content creation, and storytelling to help amplify ICCS’s mission and impact. Proficiency in Canva is highly desirable. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about community engagement, inclusive messaging, and making a difference through meaningful communication. Key Responsibilities: - Develop external email communications for donors, community partners, and potential partners for an upcoming fundraiser - Conduct research on statistics related to housing, homelessness, and mental health on Vancouver Island. - Create materials such as posters and social media posts for fundraising events. - Perform database entries and analysis. - Participate in public engagement opportunities at the office and off-site events. - Undertake other duties as assigned. Skills Developed: - Adaptability: Gain experience in adjusting programming and resources based on funding and community needs. - Collaboration: Develop collaboration skills by working with internal staff and external community partners. - Communication: Enhance written and verbal communication through constructing email mailouts, creating visual aids, and interacting with various stakeholders. - Creativity and Innovation: Build skills in creating fundraising campaigns and informative material to educate the community. - Digital Skills: Utilize programs like Canva, Photoshop, Teams, and WordPress to complete necessary tasks. - Problem Solving: Develop problem-solving abilities through daily project work with the Development and Communications Team.
