Description
The Position Under the general supervision of the Health Manager, the Dietitian is responsible for managing and supporting programs and services within the shíshálh Nation and for providing one-to-one and/or group facilitation to community members on nutrition, food values, traditional diet, and relationships with physical activity and food to improve community health outcomes. Note: This is a part-time position. The Candidate: - Performing ongoing community-level assessments of nutrition and food-related strengths, opportunities, needs and challenges of shíshálh Nation to inform nutrition programming. - Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team at shíshálh Health Department to perform nutrition assessments and plan, provide and evaluate personalized nutrition interventions to clients. - Using Electronic Medical Record programs to access client information and document nutrition care. - Planning and running hands-on nutrition and food education sessions for participants at the Health Department to support them in developing healthy eating knowledge and food literacy skills. - Providing community-based nutrition education programs, activities, and events to support Nation members in building healthy eating habits and healthy eating environments. - Working alongside local knowledge keepers, traditional teachers and Elders to ensure nutrition services are culturally sensitive and informed by local foodways and ways of knowing and being. - Tracking hours worked, mileage, expenses and receipts, weekly activities, client information, and funding outcomes for reporting. - Fulfilling any additional duties and responsibilities within their scope as determined in collaboration with the Health Manager, and other relevant parties (e.g., healthcare team, other department managers, community members, Elders, etc.). Qualifications, Skills and Abilities: - Completion of a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree with a Specialization in Dietetics or equivalent. - Completion of a Dietetic Internship Program recognized by the Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies. - Active, up-to-date membership and good standing with the College of Dietitians of Alberta, or eligibility and intention to apply for membership. - Understanding of the complex dietary and nutritional history of Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island and its impacts on the holistic health and well-being of Indigenous communities today. - Excellent verbal, written, and clinical communication skills and a strong ability to adapt communication to individual and population needs - Strong self-directedness, organization, prioritization, budgeting, problem-solving and time-management skills. Experience with Electronic Medical Record software systems - Experience using computer programs (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Suite) to support nutrition service development and delivery. Experience using social media platforms (e.g., Facebook) to plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate nutrition education initiatives is an asset. - Experience supporting clients in accessing nutrition-related benefits and support (e.g., Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped Special Diet Funding, Non-Insured Health Advantages) is an asset. - Experience in planning and implementing culturally sensitive nutrition services and programs in consultation and collaboration with audience/community members is an asset. - Experience providing engaging, hands-on nutrition education experiences to children and youth is an asset.
