About Us The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia’s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, 4,100 bridges, and 9 provincial ferries. We seek dedicated individuals to assist in maintaining and enhancing our provincial infrastructure.
Primary Accountabilities As the Division Raker, you will:
Assess assigned road segments for deterioration and determine required repairs;
Prepare asphalt deformities for repair and estimate materials needed;
Select appropriate fill materials;
Fill deformities with asphalt, rake for rolling, and finish with feathering for a smooth surface; and
Carry out similar duties as outlined in Group I, II, III of the CUPE Collective Agreement when qualified.
Qualifications And Experience Grade 11 plus two (2) years of cumulative work experience with a patching crew, or an equivalent education and experience.
Required skills: good eyesight for visual inspection, sustained mental concentration during raking, organization, ability to work with limited supervision, good judgment, customer and client service skills, and teamwork.
Training considered an asset: Temporary Workplace Signage, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Anti-Stripping, Confined Space, and other construction-related training. Knowledge of surveying, road construction, building structures, OH&S Act and regulations, and the ability to operate small power tools/portable equipment, are further assets.
Equivalency Equivalent combinations of training, education, and experience will be considered, including at least 3 years of related experience.

Pay Grade DV RAKER– $26.42 hourly
