Position: Community Program Assistant Start date: June 8, 2026 Location: L’Arche Winnipeg Inc. Salary: $17.84 Duration: Temporary, full-time; 35 hrs/week 8 weeks Responsible To: Events Coordinator L'Arche Winnipeg is a vibrant disability services organization that is primarily located in Transcona and St. Boniface. For over 50 years, we have been actively supporting, creating homes, and facilitating social opportunities for about 25 people living with intellectual disabilities, along with their assistants. Our diverse community includes six houses, one independent living unit, the L'Arche Tova Café and an extended network of friends who are passionate about creating a world where all people can thrive. Our mission is to make known the gifts of individuals with intellectual disabilities and create a world where everyone belongs. The Community Programming Assistant supports the life of the L’Arche Winnipeg Community by assisting to plan and host L’Arche Winnipeg’s community gatherings and events, while building meaningful friendships with our core members (residents with intellectual disabilities) and assistants and developing a thorough understanding of L’Arche. The Community Programming Assistant will gain valuable employment experience in the areas of disability services, social services, non-profit organization, event planning, customer service, and community engagement. Location: Transcona; 1500 Day Street Major Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the Events Coordinator and Community Circles Coordinator in planning and hosting 3 Community Circle Events weekly, including but not limited to: - Planning and facilitating group outings, crafts, games, and activities that are accessible to adults and seniors with various intellectual and physical disabilities. - Fostering a protected, inclusive, and fun environment for all participating members. - Developing intergenerational friendships with our aging Core Members. - Working within a budget and purchasing supplies. - Driving community vehicles to events Assist the Events Coordinator in planning and hosting community events throughout the summer, including but not limited to: - Community picnics, BBQ’s, games nights, movie nights, etc. - Day trips to festivals, parks, sports games, beaches, museums, fairs, and other events - Providing transportation support to ongoing events through the summer Attend all training and formation sessions to learn about L’Arche, including but not limited to: - Monthly Assistant’s Formation Meetings - Assistant’s Body Meetings - Weekly check-in meetings with Community Events Coordinator - L’Arche Canada Online Professional Development Courses Contribute positively to our community culture of inclusion and friendship, including but not limited to: - Upholding our core values of inclusion, respect, mutual care, compassion, peace, diversity. Building relationships with core members with intellectual disabilities, and with L’Arche Assistants and Office Staff. Qualifications: - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Experience event planning and leading group activities preferred - Experience working with people with disabilities preferred - Secondary School (required), some post-Secondary education is an asset - Class 5 Driver's License (required) - Acceptable Criminal record and Adult Abuse Registry checks (required) - First Aid Certification (required) - Availability to work some evenings and weekends Eligibility: Due to Canada Summer Jobs funding, you must meet the following eligibility requirements: - Age 15-30 - Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act - Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations. - International students are not eligible.
