Construction Trades Helper (Harbourview)

Construction Trades Helper Synthesis Design-Build is a multidisciplinary design-build firm located in Halifax, Nova Scotia looking for a reliable, versatile Construction Trades Helper to work on multiple job sites throughout the municipality and province. Responsibilities: · Clean and prepare job sites: o Clear away debris o Prepare and organize tools o Set up and dismantle equipment and fencing o Help set up scaffolding, ramps, barricades and other structures · Load and unload materials: o Transport materials and tools from facilities to job sites or from one job site to another o Load and unload the materials on/off the trucks to the sites/facilities · Assist tradespeople such as framers, drywallers, tapers, masons, and finishers on job sites with various tasks · Assist with landscaping tasks such as cutting shrubs, branches, moving rocks, gravel, soil and leveling earth · Assist in demolishing structures and clearing away debris including hazardous materials like asbestos · Operate hand and power tools and other construction equipment as needed · Perform and assist with other activities at job sites as directed by Project Manager and tradespeople About the job: · Work conditions and locations vary, dependent on the number and location of active job sites · Full-time 40 hours a week · Hourly wage starts at minimum wage $16.75 · Permanent position with probationary period · Variable schedule, daytime and evening hours required · Availability on short notice is required due to the nature of the work with changes in project scope and tradespeople timelines · Weekday and weekend shifts required · Job sites are located throughout HRM and NS – reliable transportation is necessary · Safety equipment is required in compliance with labour laws and company policies · Physically intense job with long periods of bending, standing, lifting, hauling, etc. Candidate Requirements: · 1-2 years experience as construction trades helper, assisting with various aspects of construction on residential builds and understanding of construction terminology · 1-2 years experience assisting multiple trades including masons, roofers, carpenters, bricklayers, drywallers and tapers · Experience working with hand and power tools and other construction equipment · Working knowledge of construction site safety and protocols · Strong English listening and speaking abilities to communicate with tradespeople, engineers, and clients that often include specific, detailed instructions · Proven track record of professional demeanor and work site behavior · Ability to learn quickly in the moment and adapt to changing work conditions and tasks · Ability to receive instructions and critical feedback, and implement changes as needed · Must have reliable transportation to commute to various job sites, sometimes more than one in the same day · Ability to lift and carry 50 – 100lbs · Ability to work in various physical positions for extended periods of time in all weather conditions · Proficiency in Farsi and/or Arabic is an asset, as many of our contractors and clients are fluent in these languages Please submit resume and summary including why we should hire you and how you are a good long-term fit for the role.
