Salary Salary range: CAD $50.52 - $62.85 per hour. Job Summary Full Time Clinical Instructor Position to join the Occupational Therapy Team at Surrey Memorial Hospital located in Surrey, B.C. Overview Reporting clinically to the Occupational Therapy Clinical Practice Leader and administratively to the Manager, Clinical Operations, the Clinical Instructor operates the clinical education and training program and clinic for occupational therapy students for an assigned area, in accordance with established policies and procedures and professional standards. Supervises and ensures occupational therapy students receive required supervision, training and orientation; participates in student education and/or evaluations and provides clinical services to patients, as required. Responsibilities - Coordinates day‑to‑day activities for occupational therapy students ensuring optimal use of resources and efficient use of time by preparing and adjusting student work schedules according to workload; coordinates student schedules to ensure appropriate experience in clinical areas; determines goals and objectives within each rotation; facilitates resolutions, provides clinical guidance and advice and collaborates with the Clinical Practice Leader on practice issues, as required. - Evaluates student's progress by supervising students, conducting work audits and performance evaluations; plans student education and develops appropriate training/orientation requirements; evaluates student to determine if clinical learning objectives have been met. - In collaboration with the Clinical Practice Leader, develops, organizes, conducts and implements in‑services and education programs; ensures adequate supervision of students directly involved in providing direct patient care; recommends and/or implements corrective action, as required. - Acts as a liaison between management, the educational institution and other departments; liaises with educational institution, the facility, physicians and other clinical staff to ensure that the student practicum content reflects current best practices, procedures and recent technological advances; forwards student progress records and performance evaluations to the educational institution as needed. - Develops, maintains and updates clinical teaching and/or instructional manuals. - Promotes quality management/improvement activities for occupational therapy services for the program and clinic by monitoring and evaluating the effect of changes in patient care practice; generates recommendations for alternative approaches in collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary team, including changes to policies, procedures, guidelines and/or protocols. - Maintains knowledge of current developments in evidence‑based occupational therapy practice by reviewing relevant literature, consulting with other professionals, attending relevant education programs and recommending new/changed applications to the Clinical Practice Leader. - Provides clinical services to patients as assigned by assessing and identifying problems, formulating goals, planning and implementing an appropriate treatment plan for individuals/groups; collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to determine optimal treatment plan. - Records patient treatment programs and progress according to departmental and professional charting standards; maintains staff charting standards by reviewing staff and student charts and performing chart audits. - Participates on interdisciplinary/interdepartmental and professional committees and in patient conferences by attending meetings, providing input and communicating needs and concerns related to issues including processes, equipment, patient care, quality and workload; collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate the resolution of issues and advocates for the goals and objectives of the services in accordance with occupational therapy standards and scope of clinical practice. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience: Graduation from an approved school of Occupational Therapy. Three (3) years' recent related clinical experience in a health care environment, including one (1) year experience in a leadership/supervisory role and completion of a course on adult basic education, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Appointment as a Clinical Instructor at the UBC, Faculty of Medicine required. Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists of BC or the BC Society of Occupational Therapists. Skills and Abilities - Demonstrated knowledge of occupational therapy standards, practice and related clinical issues - Ability to teach, mentor and promote teamwork - Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing - Ability to problem solve and effectively deal with conflict situations - Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders both internal and external to Fraser Health - Ability to deal with others effectively - Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in a continuously changing workplace - Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team - Ability to deal with and promote change - Ability to operate related equipment including related software applications - Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
