About Lite-1 We are a young creative group of multidisciplinary scientists and designers with the mission to build the next generation of sustainable dye and pigments grown by microorganisms as the dye factories of the future. Our dyes reduce water pollution, are safe for workers as well as the ecosystem, and eliminate our dependence on non-renewable resources. Our main goal is to transform the dye industry from a toxic and hazardous industry to a clean, healthy, and circular one by introducing the future of dye manufacturing. We are looking for a curious scientist in microbiology or biotechnology with excellent research skills to join our team and work with us to develop new sustainable colours for the dye industry. Responsibilities - Prepare and execute dyeing experiments for various end-use applications, including textiles, coatings, and inks. - Participate in stability and weathering investigations and conduct in-depth analysis including color properties analyses, colour-fastness, durability testing, and assessing the performance of the dyes on the target materials. - Conduct formulation and process development experiments to support ongoing research. - Collaborate on optimizing formulations for biocolorant applications. - Gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge chemistry tools and workflows. - Attend team meetings to share findings and receive mentorship from leading scientists, designers, and engineers. - Engage in cross-disciplinary brainstorming sessions to contribute fresh perspectives to Lite-1’s innovations. Requirements - Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. - Laboratory Experience: Proven experience working in a chemistry lab or relevant research environment. - Research Skills: Strong research and analytical abilities to gather relevant information, critically analyze data, and draw meaningful conclusions. - Enthusiasm for Microbial Colour: Genuine interest in the field of microbial colour and clean chemistry, and a willingness to learn and innovate in this area. - Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with the team and present research findings. - Organization and Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work effectively, and meet project deadlines. This position is funded through the SWPP which means candidates must fit the below eligibility requirements - Enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at a Canadian post-secondary education institution. Including undergrad, masters, and PhD. - A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred and legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
