Research Services Specialist Competition ID: 4608 Closing Dates: May 29, 2026 (internal and external) Salary: $33.88 to $37.81 per hour, 13 - BCGEU Pay Grid Employment Type: Permanent Full Time Workplace Type: Hybrid Travel: Occasional travel between campuses required Job Overview The Research Services Specialist works closely with researchers to efficiently administer post‑award research projects, ensuring alignment with funding‑agency guidelines. Provides detailed, timely reports on project status to senior administrators and serves as the primary liaison between KPU administrative units and researchers. Requires broad knowledge of institutional and external funding‑agency policies, research finance, and strong attention to detail. Responsibilities - Administer externally funded research projects post‑award, ensuring compliance with agency guidelines. - Prepare and deliver detailed, timely reports to senior administrators. - Communicate with external funding agencies to update KPU’s research administration practices as guidelines change. - Act as primary liaison between administrative units and researchers, facilitating smooth project operations. - Make sound recommendations with minimal supervision. Education and Experience - Minimum five years of administrative experience and two years of post‑secondary education; preferred research administration certification or equivalent. - Experience working in a research administration workplace required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Working knowledge of research administration and compliance (e.g., research ethics, animal care) throughout the research life cycle. - Ability to coordinate financial activities and monitor compliance with policies and agreements. - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet applications. - Typing speed of 40 wpm with high accuracy. - Experience with content management systems. - Initiative, organization, decision‑making skills. - Ability to work independently and as a team member. - Superior communication skills, excellent written and oral proficiency. - Knowledge of institutional policies and funding‑agency policies. - Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high customer service. - Flexible scheduling; overtime and out‑of‑town travel may be required. - Confidentiality handling with discretion.
