Social Worker, MSW - Surrey Memorial Hospital Salary: CAD $42.27 - $52.81 per hour

Detailed Overview Reporting clinically to the Professional Practice Chief and administratively to the Manager of Clinical Operations. As a comprehensive social worker, you will conduct psychosocial assessments, provide therapeutic counseling, consult with interdisciplinary teams, and lead patient care planning. You will also develop in‑services, presentations, psycho‑educational groups, and research activities to improve service delivery.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments of patients and families.

Provide therapeutic clinical services such as grief and bereavement counseling.

Consult and educate patients, families, and healthcare professionals on high‑risk factors and recovery.

Maintain patient records, charting, progress notes, and reports per regulatory requirements.

Provide leadership to the interdisciplinary team in patient care planning.

Arrange meetings and coordinate care plans and community services.

Communicate with community health agencies and provincial ministries.

Act as a clinical resource, offering information on community resources.

Participate in local committees for program evaluation and efficiency improvements.

Maintain records of workload, analyze trends, and prepare reports.

Develop, coordinate and deliver in‑services, presentations, and psycho‑educational groups.

Initiate and conduct research activities, program planning, and budget monitoring.

Stay current with literature in the clinical specialty area and participate in professional development.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Social Work from an approved school and at least one year of recent acute‑care clinical experience. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers.

Applicants holding a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and a demonstrable equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. If applying under equivalency, please outline how you meet MSW equivalency criteria.

Advanced counseling skills, including crisis counseling and grief interventions.

Leadership in interdisciplinary care planning for effective resource utilization.

Effective referral skills and community resource knowledge.

Strong verbal and written communication with patients, families, staff, and agencies.

Organizational and prioritization skills in a complex environment.

Computer competency with relevant software applications.

Physical capacity to carry out job duties.
