Full Job Description We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and results-driven French Instructor to lead our general French courses and specialized TEF & TCF Exam Preparation programs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the TEF & TCF exam structure (including Express Entry and Quebec immigration requirements) and a proven track record of helping adult learners achieve their target CLB/NCLC scores. This role involves delivering high-impact, interactive instruction in both online and in-person environments. Main Purpose of the Job: As a French Language Instructor, you will be responsible for designing and delivering high-quality French language lessons to individuals or groups of students. You will play a crucial role in helping learners develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in French. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of the French language, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. Reports to: IH Modern Languages Director Direct Reports: IH Modern Languages Director Duties and Responsibilities: 1. TEF Exam Preparation & Specialized Instruction - Deliver targeted instruction focusing on the four core components of the TEF exam: Oral Comprehension, Written Comprehension, Oral Expression, and Written Expression. - Teach advanced test-taking strategies, time-management techniques, and scoring rubrics specific to the TEF. - Conduct regular diagnostic assessments and mock exams to track student progress and identify areas for score improvement. - Provide constructive, individualized feedback on speaking and writing tasks to help students maximize their immigration points. 2. Curriculum & Lesson Delivery - Adapt and deliver high-impact lesson plans for both general French group classes and intensive exam prep modules. - Focus heavily on real-world communication and interactive, communicative language teaching (CLT) methods—avoiding rigid "textbook-only" boredom. - Utilize educational technology, learning management systems (LMS), and interactive tools to enhance the online learning experience. 3. Student Support & Engagement - Maintain a vibrant, encouraging, and skilled classroom environment (whether virtual or in-person) that fosters student confidence. - Support adult learners who may be managing tight deadlines related to their immigration or career goals. - Monitor attendance, maintain accurate student records, and submit progress reports to the academic administration in a timely manner. Qualifications: - Language Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency in French (C1/C2 level minimum); strong English communication skills. - Education: Bachelor's degree in French Language, Linguistics, Education, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred. - Experience: * Minimum of 2–3 years of experience teaching French to adult learners. - Required: Proven experience preparing students successfully for the TEF (experience with TCF, DELF/DALF is a strong asset). - Skills: * Deep familiarity with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) / Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC). - Strong technical proficiency for delivering seamless online/ in-person classes via platforms like Microsoft Teams, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and multimedia resources to enhance language instruction. - Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work with busy professionals. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English. - Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment. Part-time hours: 2-15 per week Salary: $25.00-$35.00 per hour Schedule: Evening shift, Monday to Friday *Required to teach for both on-campus and online teaching when needed.
