Facilities Interior Designer Position: Join the Facilities team as a Facilities Interior Designer, working within the Facilities team. Responsible for providing technical support to Kwantlen Polytechnic University for renovations and refurbishment projects. Tasks include development of interior space requirements and standards, selecting furniture, planning, co‑coordinating, and overseeing renovations. Under the general direction of the Manager, Capital Projects, this position assists in coordinating interior planning, scheduling, technical, contractual, and financial activities to support renovation delivery, campus refurbishment, and furniture acquisition and replacement. The role interprets and complies with codes, regulations, by‑laws and other applicable legislation related to facilities, assists in developing related policies, and consults internally with administration, faculty, staff and students and externally with service contractors, inspection authorities and consultants. Exercises independence of judgment and action to maintain project budgets and schedules for multiple projects simultaneously. Responsibilities - Provide technical support for renovations and refurbishment projects. - Develop interior space requirements and standards, including furniture selection. - Plan, co‑coordinate, and oversee renovations. - Coordinate interior planning, scheduling, technical, contractual, and financial activities. - Interpret and comply with codes, regulations, by‑laws, and legislation. - Assist in developing policies related to facilities areas of responsibility. - Consult with administration, faculty, staff, students, contractors, inspection authorities, and consultants. - Maintain project budgets and schedules for multiple projects simultaneously. Education and Experience - A Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Design, Industrial or Interior Design or equivalent knowledge, training, and experience. - Experience in facilities management, construction, interior design, planning, layout design, or architecture, preferably in the post‑secondary setting. - Two years’ experience and demonstrable proficiency in AutoCAD and other commonly used design software such as Google SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign. - Familiarity and experience working with computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office, Project, Visio, and Building Management Systems. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Demonstrable knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in space planning, alteration, and renovation projects, and a robust understanding of related building systems including HVAC, lighting, life safety, communications and security. - Working knowledge of applicable building codes, fire and safety codes, by‑laws, regulations, and related legislation. - Experience dealing with external companies and qualified service providers; ability to schedule, coordinate, and oversee the delivery of space planning, alterations, and renovation contractors. - Ability to compose complex business correspondence including documents, drawings, and specifications related to the field. - Proven ability to maintain, manage and prepare drawings, graphs, spreadsheets, Gantt charts, and related reports. - Ability to read and interpret drawing packages. - Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. - Ability to interact effectively with a diverse community of administrators, students, faculty, employees, contractors, inspectors, engineers, and architects. - Ability to deal with confidential matters related to educational and human resource planning. - Ability to travel between campuses. Job Details Employment type: Temporary Full Time. Workplace type: Hybrid. Days of work: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (35 hours per week). Employee group: Support Staff (BC General Employees Union). Regular travel between campuses required. Salary 14 – BCGEU Pay Grid – $34.78 to $38.87 per hour.
