Medical Director (Psychiatry) Behavioral Health Services Location: Westland, Michigan (On-Site with Flexibility) Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099) Schedule: Part-Time, 20 30 Hours Per Week (Based on Caseload) Reports To: Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services About the OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced and compassionate Medical Director (Psychiatry) to provide clinical leadership and psychiatric care within a growing Behavioral Health Services program. This position offers the opportunity to shape psychiatric service delivery, support multidisciplinary teams, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of children, adolescents, and adults receiving behavioral health treatment.The Medical Director will provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, clinical consultation, and oversight of psychiatric services while collaborating with agency leadership to expand both in-person and telehealth care programs. Please Note: This is a 1099 Independent Contractor position requiring approximately 20 30 hours per week, depending on client volume and program needs.Key Responsibilities Clinical Care Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management appointments. Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications as clinically appropriate. Order, review, and interpret laboratory tests when necessary. Provide psychiatric services through both in-person and telehealth platforms.Deliver care to children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of behavioral health conditions, including co-occurring substance use disorders. Medical Leadership Provide clinical consultation and guidance to multidisciplinary treatment teams. Serve as a key member of the Behavior Treatment Committee, reviewing and approving treatment plans as needed.Coordinate psychiatric service delivery across the organization. Define and oversee psychiatric standards of care and clinical best practices. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, compliance reviews, and regulatory audits. Program Development&Oversight Collaborate with Behavioral Health leadership to enhance service delivery models. Assist in developing clinical protocols, policies, and procedures. Evaluate the quality, effectiveness, and appropriateness of psychiatric services. Lead and participate in psychiatric staff meetings and case reviews.Provide training and educational presentations to clinical staff. Staff Support&Recruitment Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, and supervision of psychiatric providers. Support performance evaluations and peer review activities for psychiatric staff, including nurse practitioners and psychiatric residents. Promote a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, and trauma-informed care.Qualifications Required Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Active Michigan medical license in good standing. Board Certification in Child&Adolescent Psychiatry. Ability to prescribe and manage psychiatric medications. Minimum of five (5) years of psychiatric experience working with both child and adult populations. Experience providing care for individuals with serious mental illness and behavioral health conditions. Knowledge of telehealth platforms and electronic medical record systems.Preferred Substance Abuse Certification. Experience within the Detroit/Wayne County Community Mental Health system. Familiarity with integrated behavioral health and community-based mental health services. Knowledge, Skills&Competencies Strong trauma-informed leadership and clinical decision-making skills. Expertise in working within complex behavioral health service systems. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Cultural competence and commitment to serving diverse populations. Experience treating individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.Commitment to maintaining high ethical and professional standards. Excellent communication, consultation, and relationship-building skills. Additional Requirements Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education, conferences, and training.Ability to meet all credentialing and compliance requirements. Why Join Us?
