General Manager – Mechanical Construction

Location: Greater Toronto Area (Newmarket, ON)

Kolostat has retained Harbinger Network Inc. to lead the search for its next General Manager for the Greater Toronto Area. This is a rare opportunity for a proven mechanical construction leader to step into a highly visible role with full operational and strategic accountability. The mandate is to build on a strong, established foundation and work alongside an energized leadership group to scale operations, strengthen market position, and drive the GTA business to new levels of performance.

About the Role

As General Manager, you will oversee the overall performance, profitability, and strategic direction of the mechanical construction division. Reporting to senior leadership, you will lead project delivery, operations, finance, health and safety, and business development while ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the mechanical construction operations in Ontario.
• Translate corporate objectives into clear operational plans and measurable goals.
• Foster a strong performance-driven culture focused on accountability, safety, quality, and collaboration.
• Act as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to long-term business growth and succession planning.

Operations & Project Delivery

• Oversee all mechanical construction projects from pre-construction through close-out.
• Ensure efficient allocation of resources (labour, equipment, materials) across projects.
• Maintain a strong field presence and work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen.
• Implement and continuously improve operational processes, execution strategies, and productivity standards.
• Resolve major operational, technical, or contractual issues that may impact the project performance.

Financial Management

• Full P&L responsibility for the mechanical construction division.
• Develop and manage annual operating budgets, forecasts, and cash flow.
• Monitor project financial performance, cost controls, margins, and risk exposure.
• Review and approve major bids, contracts, change orders, and claims.
• Drive profitability through cost optimization, operational efficiency, and disciplined project controls.
• Health, Safety & Compliance
• Champion a strong safety culture aligned with Ontario legislation and industry’s best practices.
• Ensure compliance with OHSA, WSIB, union agreements, and company safety programs.
• Oversee implementation of health, safety, and quality control processes across all job sites.
• Lead investigations and corrective actions related to incidents or non-compliance.

People Management & Talent Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop senior leaders (Directors, Project Managers, Operations Managers).
• Support workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, and succession planning.
• Promote employee engagement, training, and leadership development across the organization.
• Collaborate with Human Resources on labour relations, organizational structure, and change management initiatives.

Business Development & Client Relations

• Build and maintain robust relationships with key clients, general contractors, consultants, and partners.
• Support business development activities, including strategic pursuits and market expansion.
• Represent the company professionally in industry associations and client meetings.
• Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and repeat business.

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience within mechanical construction

• Strong background in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems

• Proven success managing operations, project delivery, and P&L

• Strong knowledge of Ontario construction regulations and safety standards

• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

• Strategic, results-driven, and capable of leading high-performing teams
