Contract

FTE: Must provide availability of a 0.60 FTE

Union Status: ONA

Shift Schedule (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs): Mon– Sun – Various rotating 12-hour shifts

Employment Status: Temporary Part-time

Department: OT Emergency Mental Health BAS

Length of temporary contract: Approx. 9 months

The Mental Health Program works in partnership with the Emergency Department to support patient care and access to services. The successful candidate will perform mental health and risk assessments, provide one-to-one supportive therapy and medical care, and fulfill the full scope of nursing care. The BAS nurse will report to the Manager of Mental Health and work collaboratively with the Emergency Department, inpatient programs, other hospital services, and community agencies.

Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;

Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire;

Minimum of 1 year recent experience in emergency, crisis&mental health required;

Minimum of 3 years of acute mental health experience required;

Mental health community experience preferred;

Advanced skill in the assessment and management of acute mental health and concurrent disorders conditions, including mental status examination, suicide risk assessment, management of aggressive behaviour, biopsychosocial assessment, physical health assessment, treatment and transitional care;

Additional experience in addictions and/or medical/surgical or emergency nursing would be considered an asset;

Current certification in non-violent crisis intervention;

Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable health care legislations.

Additional Skills

Demonstrated ability to perform charge nurse duties preferred;

Demonstrated ability to prioritize care and make informed autonomous decisions;

Demonstrated ability to work with complex and difficult patient and family situations;

Physical ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of aggressive behaviour;

Proficient in the use of computers, with the ability to type notes and utilize the electronic health record;

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;

Excellent organization, time management, professionalism, and ability to work as part of a team;

Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record required;

Passion for change, quality improvement, and professional development.

Hours:

Monday to Sunday, various 12-hour shifts (hours are subject to change based on operational needs).

Salary:

$39.07 to $56.00 per hour.
