Why we need you As the Video Editor, you will be responsible for sourcing, producing, and editing video content across The Weather Network’s platforms (TV, digital, social). Working with the digital team you will also be responsible for pitching ideas, recommending new video production strategies, and finding ways to provide greater exposure and value for the growing archive of video. In this role you will work alongside the editorial and production teams in digital and broadcast to ensure that the budgeted expectations of each platform are met, with additional focus on growing audiences, and producing content in a manner that will work across all screens.

Please note, this is an On‑call role. On call meaning, there are no guaranteed hours and you will be called as and when we have work requirements. We are only considering candidates who are eligible to work in Canada and are currently located in the Greater Toronto Area.

What’s the day to day like?

Liaise with the Video Assignment Editor on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis as required to stay in‑line with editorial direction.

Sourcing video clips from social, user‑generated content (UGC), Reuters, Storyful, Global, CBC, and/or other content partners, as well as FTP and Dejero.

Participate in daily huddles to ensure the editing team is aware and up‑to‑date of news and active weather coverage.

Pitch ideas to Video Assignment Editor and take initiative in producing features that will resonate with TWN audiences.

Work on Adobe Creative Suite– Premiere, Express, Photoshop, and After Effects.

Edit daily Force of Nature segments for Television; provide editing support to TV/TV apps lead and media producers during Storm Centre and active weather coverage.

Ability to write scripts and produce Text‑on‑Video (TOV) or Voice Over (VO) videos.

Follow the video approval process and provide feedback on editing style and production with the Video Assignment Editor, optimization team, and social media lead to help cut vertical video for TWN social channels.

Monitor broadcast and identify relevant clips to be used online and across mobile platforms.

Work with media engineering and technical operation staff to report any technical issues that may arise with editing equipment and workflows and promptly troubleshoot any editing issues.

Take an analytics‑based approach to video production, regularly monitoring the performance of content and applying key learnings to future productions.

Navigate and track metadata in Media Asset Management (MAM) System.

Send content from MAM to TWN’s digital video player, JW Player; fill out metadata, rename and tag UGC in JW Player; update various video playlists via JW Player.

Posting and optimizing video content to JW Player, TWN’s video player.

Creating thumbnails to increase CTR on articles and videos; inform writers of relevant or new video content and ETA.

Ability to write headlines, choose photos/videos and package content quickly and accurately in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

We are hoping you have

Diploma in Broadcast or Communications or related experience and a minimum of two (2) years working as a digital video editor.

Must have a strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.

Experience working with media asset management systems.

Good technical understanding of audio/video equipment.

Knowledge of broadcasting standards and systems.

Experience working online as part of a daily digital news operation.

Ability to package content quickly and accurately in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Proven video editing skills using industry‑standard video editing solutions.

Understanding of digital analytics platforms and custom reporting tools (e.g., Google Analytics and JW Player).

Photo editing skills are an asset. Understanding of animation and graphic design (e.g., CANVA).

Bilingual English / French an asset.
