The opportunity

We have a pivotal leadership opportunity for a Senior HR position at Fairview. At a high level you would be focused on evolving the HR function, building leadership capability within the organization, and bringing our mission to life.

Reporting to the President, the Senior HR Leader will play a strategic role in enhancing and modernizing our people practices, with a strong focus on building leader capability, strengthening manager accountability for employee development, and aligning our systems to support long-term growth and succession.

You will guide the organization through a transition from established HR practices to more integrated, development-focused approaches, ensuring leaders and employees are supported every step of the way. This includes developing high-level policies and frameworks that will guide operational HR work going forward as well as serving as a key advisor, balancing day-to-day operations like payroll, compliance, and employee relations.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the leadership team, developing a new human resources strategy and establishing high-level policies that align with business goals.
  • Design workforce plans to ensure the organization is prepared for future capability needs.
  • Develop and implement a practical succession planning framework that reflects business needs and future growth.
  • Foster a culture where leaders are accountable for the growth and success of their employees.
  • Provide practical tools and guidance that help leaders manage performance and development and support managers in effectively leading, coaching, and developing their teams.
  • Enhance the performance management approach to better support continuous feedback, development, and growth.
  • Align performance conversations with career development and succession planning.
  • Drive change management initiatives while preserving Fairview's legacy and values.
  • Review and update compensation, benefits, and performance management frameworks.
  • Ensure strong HR governance by maintaining compliance with all HR-related legal requirements and building the right people, processes, and systems to uphold accountability.
  • Introduce and track HR metrics (e.g., employee development, engagement, retention, succession readiness.)
  • Use insights and trends to support decision-making by leadership and the Board.
  • Oversee HR operations—including payroll, compensation, performance management, workforce planning and employee relations—ensuring consistent execution, compliance with legal requirements and alignment with organizational policies and procedures.

Skills and qualifications

  • Post‐secondary degree or diploma in HR, Business, or a related field; HR designation (e.g., CHRP or CHRL) is an asset.
  • Seven or more years of progressive HR experience across strategic and operational domains.
  • Solid experience in all human resources practices including compensation, workforce planning, employee relations, and policy development.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leadership while managing hands‐on HR operations
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem‐solving abilities.
  • Naturally self-driven, takes initiative, has sound judgment and the ability to influence.
  • Confident, approachable, adaptive, and ready to have tough conversations—with professionalism and good humour.
  • Manufacturing or industrial distribution experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity working within a family business environment would be an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset, not required.

What we offer

The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $125,000, commensurate with skill and experience, and comes with a comprehensive benefits package and an RSP savings plan.
