Job Title: Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Location: High River – Includes local travel for field reviews Position Type: Full time Role Overview Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world. We are seeking a versatile and technically minded Structural EIT to join our team in High River, AB. This role offers a unique balance of high-level technical analysis and practical field experience. You will be responsible for performing complex structural designs using Finite Element Modelling (FEM) while also spending significant time on conducting structural field reviews and construction inspections for industrial and residential projects. Key Responsibilities - Design & Advanced Analysis: Prepare detailed engineering designs for steel, reinforced concrete, and load-bearing wall panels. Utilize industry-standard software to conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and provide technical recommendations under the guidance of senior engineers. - Field Reviews & Inspections: Conduct on-site structural inspections at various construction stages, including verifying rebar size/layout for drag struts prior to concrete pours. Ensure structures can safely resist gravity and environmental loads in compliance with Canadian codes and design drawings. - Connection Design: Evaluate and validate the capacity of welded and bolted structural connections to ensure compliance with CSA standards (e.g., S16, S136). - Construction Administration: Supervise technologists and review shop drawings for structural steel and steel stud panels. Address unforeseen site conditions by developing practical engineering solutions and procedures to maintain design intent. - Project Support & Research: Support the team in developing alternative design options through feasibility research and code reviews (NBCC). Monitor construction schedules using Microsoft Project to ensure regulatory compliance. - Collaborative Execution: Establish and maintain effective working relationships across project and client interfaces, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically complex projects. Minimum Requirements - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university. - Registration: Current registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern with a Canadian provincial regulatory body (e.g., PEO, APEGA, EGBC). - Technical Proficiency: o Direct experience or advanced academic coursework in Finite Element Modelling (FEM). o Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., RISA, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, or S-FRAME) and Revit. o Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and Canadian material standards. - Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapid-paced environment. - Travel: Must possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for travel to project sites.
