YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.

The Assistant Food Services Director works closely with the Food Services Director to support the day‑to‑day operations of Camp Pine Crest’s dining services and contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality food service experiences and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for staff and participants. Strong organizational skills and attention to operational standards are essential to ensure consistency, safety, and efficiency across all food service functions. The successful candidate is required to live on site for the duration of the contract, which runs until October 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension.

In this role, you will:

Supervise the food services team by providing coaching, guidance, and support to coordinators and kitchen staff to ensure effective daily operations.

Support the recruitment and hiring process for seasonal staff by maintaining accurate records and contributing to workforce planning and onboarding activities.

Act as a positive role model by demonstrating YMCA values, Pine Crest guiding principles, organizational policies, and Ontario Camps Association standards.

Assist with seasonal staff training alongside the Food Services Director to support staff development, skill‑building, and team performance.

Build and sustain positive relationships with campers, staff, volunteers, and families to foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive camp environment.

Assist in managing food orders, inventory, and operational needs within the assigned budget to ensure efficient and cost‑effective kitchen operations.

Collaborate with the Food Services Director and kitchen team to plan, prepare, and serve camp meals efficiently while maintaining quality standards and a positive dining experience.

Maintain high standards of food safety by ensuring all team members follow proper procedures, camp policies, and regulatory requirements.

Follow and enforce health and safety procedures to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for all participants and staff.

Provide appropriate food substitutions for guests with dietary restrictions, allergies, or cultural needs while ensuring safe meal alternatives.

Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time, including kitchen and purchasing documentation, performance appraisals, and incident reports.

Attend all staff trainings and meetings on time and actively contribute to team learning and development.

Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, including washing dishes, sanitizing equipment, and supporting overall facility cleanliness.

Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:

Standard First Aid&“CPR‑C” required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of your contract.

Food Handler Certificate required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of your contract or equivalent experience.

Minimum 2 years supervising staff, preferably in a kitchen setting.

Minimum 2 years of experience in an institutional kitchen.

Ability to lead and empower a staff team of young leaders.

Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff.

Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner.

Demonstrated ability to multi‑task and be adaptable to change.

Demonstrated organizational skills.

Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team environment and independently to achieve optimal collective results.

Well‑developed interpersonal and relationship‑building skills; ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, staff, and volunteers.

Excellent communication skills.

Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required.
