Shift: Swing Mon/Tue off, Wednesday - Sunday 14:00 - 22:00

The Gateway to Your Future
Gateway supports the Culinary Apprenticeship Program, providing employees with the opportunity to attain their Red Seal Journeyperson Trade Certification through a combination of classroom instruction and on‑job training. This will also help support the opportunity for culinary team members to be promoted to First Cook and Chef de Partie. Committing to an apprenticeship program is a huge step, making it critical that passionate, dedicated and motivated members take on this role as part of the program.

To enhance the on‑job learning, the Executive Chef ensures Apprentices are provided with additional opportunities, including gala events, seminars, demonstrations and courses.
What You Bring
Internal candidates possess at least 12 months experience in the Culinary department
Grade 12 or ministry approved equivalent
Minimum of one‑year Culinary experience
Meets the criteria established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Apprenticeship and Adjustment.
A genuine desire to grow in the culinary profession.
French language skills (verbal and written) are an asset
A desire to comply with the duties of workers or supervisors, Health and Safety policies, procedures and protocols.
A positive health and safety attitude to ensure a safe entertainment destination for patrons and co‑workers.
The Apprenticeship Details Successful applicants to this program will rotate through all culinary locations at the Resort and will occur quarterly with scheduling being based upon the available Apprenticeship lines.
Wages of Apprenticeships/1st Year– 65% of the current Journeyperson rate. The Journeyperson rate will be considered the current rates of a First Cook. Applicants from the Culinary department shall have their rate of pay “grandfathered” for the duration of the apprenticeship program, if their current rate exceeds the rates identified above.
Wage increases will be approved by the Executive Chef and Human Resources, after receiving documentation confirming a successful grade have been achieved by the candidate. It will be the responsibility of the Candidate to provide this documentation to Casino Rama within 30 days of returning from in‑classroom instruction.
The Company agrees to pay for apprenticeship related programs including tuition, books, exams and licensing fees. Participants in the Apprenticeship program will be responsible for paying for relevant equipment (knives), supplies and other expenses not noted above.
Participants may be eligible to receive Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while attending courses. Please refer to the following link for further details: Apprentices will not be eligible to apply for other positions while in the Apprenticeship program. For further details, please refer to the Collective Agreement, Schedule B.
