Description
Licensing Inspector – Student Responsibilities - Obtain compliance with municipal by‑laws by reporting to the Supervisor, Licensing Services. - Encourage owners of residential properties and businesses to construct and operate in the interest of public health and safety and consumer protection. - Inspect, refer, recommend, and provide advice regarding business licensing, two‑unit registration, and pool enclosures. - Perform office functions including telephone calls, data entry, handling inquiries, maintaining inspection logs, and other duties as assigned. - Provide efficient customer service and education to the public. - Maintain positive public relations in discussing and resolving work‑related matters. Qualifications - Current full‑time enrolment in a recognised university/college program in law enforcement, planning, policing or public administration. - Good reading, writing and oral communication skills; ability to read, interpret and apply by‑law regulations and complete required forms. - Strong interpersonal skills, tact and courtesy for dealing with the public on sensitive matters. - Strong work ethic and knowledge of safety policies, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS; First Aid training is an asset. - Possession of a valid Ontario driver’s licence (Class G) and ability to pass City of Oshawa motor‑vehicle tests. - Commitment to the full employment term through September 4, 2026. - Ability to undergo a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check as a condition of employment.
