Licensing Inspector– Student

Responsibilities

Obtain compliance with municipal by‑laws by reporting to the Supervisor, Licensing Services. Encourage owners of residential properties and businesses to construct and operate in the interest of public health and safety and consumer protection. Inspect, refer, recommend, and provide advice regarding business licensing, two‑unitregistration, and pool enclosures.Perform office functions including telephone calls, data entry, handling inquiries, maintaining inspection logs, and other duties as assigned. Provide efficient customer service and education to the public. Maintain good public relations in discussing and resolving work‑related matters. Qualifications

Current full‑time enrolment in a recognised university/college program in law enforcement, planning, policing or public administration. Good reading, writing and oral communication skills; ability to read, interpret and apply by‑law regulations and complete required forms. Strong interpersonal skills, tact and courtesy for dealing with the public on sensitive matters.Strong work ethic and knowledge of safety policies, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS; First Aid training is an asset. Possession of a valid Ontario driver’s licence (Class G) and ability to pass City of Oshawa motor‑vehicle tests.
