Who we are: Canadian Mental Health Association Durham is an integrated community mental health and primary care hub that has been providing mental health services to Durham Region for over 60 years. During that time, it has evolved to provide a broad range of services to individuals and their families experiencing mental health challenges, from information and education to case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, housing and primary healthcare. These services are provided through inter‑professional teams focused on providing clinically based services that address social determinants of health using the recovery model. Purpose of the Position: We are seeking a skilled and cooperative Quality Improvement and Risk Management Lead to join our team for a 12‑month maternity leave contract. The role is responsible for advancing organizational quality improvement initiatives, with a strong focus on accreditation readiness and continuous improvement practices. The Lead will provide leadership and coordination of quality improvement and accreditation activities, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and standards. The role will also maintain oversight of risk management processes, supporting a proactive approach to identifying, assessing, and mitigating risk across the organization. Duties and Responsibilities: Facilitate the management, collection and analysis of clinical and non‑clinical CMHA data at the employee, client, family, community and stakeholder levels to identify opportunities for quality improvement, risk management and service enhancement. Participate as a member of the management team in providing expertise and guidance on continuous quality and risk management improvement initiatives. Liaise with employees to communicate and promote continuous improvement goals. Support teams on the use of continuous quality improvement and risk management tools and processes, providing resources to employees to achieve or exceed goals. Oversee the quality improvement plan program activities and develop quarterly and annual quality reports while ensuring compliance with standards. Co‑lead the accreditation and certification process with the organization. Gather and evaluate risk management data from the organization and analyze data for patterns and trends in care delivery. Assist with organization‑wide education and capacity building related to quality improvement and risk management. Coordinate consumer input/feedback surveys, review results and provide recommendations for improvement. Keep up to date on best practices, trends and applications related to continuous quality improvement and risk management. Manage day‑to‑day operations of the quality improvement and risk management portfolio. Collaborate with the management team and front‑line employees to coordinate the review of adverse incidents, ensuring implementation of recommendations and risk mitigation strategies. Participate in various internal/external committees and community of practices. Report client safety incidents and suggested improvements to the manager or delegate. Program Management: Supervise and mentor direct report(s), providing guidance and support. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to direct report(s). Provide oversight of day‑to‑day activities, promoting a transparent and consistent direction and an open communication culture. Lead the organization for client safety and key roles in emergency preparedness. Apply in‑depth knowledge of issue analysis, policy development, clinical and operational issues, care processes, decision‑making, process control and management, and clinical information systems. Maintain knowledge of local and national managed care and primary health care trends. Work effectively with staff and community organizations and build client relationships. Minimize risks by adhering to established policies and procedures. Initiate, manage and implement multiple tasks simultaneously to achieve organizational goals. Utilize MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the internet. Maintain confidentiality and comply with relevant legislation. Work independently and cooperatively as part of a team, board of directors, stakeholders and partners such as external vendors. Integrate CMHA Durham’s welcoming philosophy into everyday practice. Adapt to change and navigate ambiguous situations. Demonstrate project management skills and knowledge of Indigenous communities and cultural practices (preferred). Fluency in French is considered an asset. Work outside of normal business hours as required. Other Duties as Assigned: Attend, participate in team meetings and all employee meetings. Participate in organizational quality improvement activities, e.g., accreditation projects, committee work, special events. Participate in quality improvement activities at the team/program level. Participate in external committees as required. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred or post‑secondary education in Planning, Risk Management, Public Administration or Human Services. Minimum of three to five years recent experience in leading or facilitating quality improvement initiatives (design, implementation, and/or evaluation). Extensive knowledge and understanding of quality and risk management principles, client safety, best practices, methods and techniques (e.g., Continuous Quality Improvement, IDEAS, Lean, Six Sigma, change management). Knowledge of interdisciplinary care models pertinent to a Quality and Risk Management Lead. What We Offer: CMHA Durham is a non‑profit community‑based organization that welcomes diverse backgrounds.
