Position Summary and Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Director of Service Delivery, the System Administrator utilizes their expert technical knowledge to interface with a myriad of environments and technologies across the project lifecycle. The Senior Microsoft 365 Technical Engineer will be responsible for providing in-depth Microsoft365 subject matter expertise and technical leadership for the current and future delivery, vision and continuous improvement of production services in the M365 environment. You Should Know: - This is a full-time, permanent position. - Hours are Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm (typically) - you need to be available to internal and external clients. - The candidate MUST be local to Ottawa. - You must have a valid drivers license and access to a vehicle for work. - Requires security clearance or eligibility for security clearance. This is essential. - You will be required to participate in the on-call schedule. What You’ll Do as a System Administrator: - Lead the planning, design, development and deployment of M365-based solutions; work closely with business areas to recognize the need for various apps within M365 and work on configuration and roll out of the solutions. - Develop plans, training, seminars, Q&A; sessions and communications materials to support user adoption of M365 solutions. - Provide technical lead role for system administration and operations of all Microsoft 365 services as well as security, compliance, and governance efforts. - Deliver quality M365 technical solutions with a security framework in mind and ensure the ongoing improvement and implementation of Cyber Security best practices and compliance - Partner with team members and insourced/outsourced technical staff to ensure end-user needs are well understood, agreed upon, and met - Deliver on technical M365 projects. Examples of technical projects include but are not limited to: - M365 Email migrations - SharePoint online design and implementation - M3665 Tenant hardening – Security and Compliance Centre - M365 Business Voice design and implementation - Intune design and deployment - MDM - Multi-factor authentication and MS365 security enhancements - Microsoft Exchange - Lead the technical teams in planning the releases of new M365 features - Communicate internally and externally on client project statuses, planned changes, and outages - Other relevant job duties, as assigned from time to time Physical Requirements: - Sitting for extended periods: The employee must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods, typically for several hours at a time. - Standing for extended periods: The employee must be able to stand for extended periods, typically for several hours at a time. - Computer use: The employee must be able to use a computer and keyboard for extended periods, often with frequent typing. - Visual acuity: The employee must have good vision to read text on a computer screen, printed documents, and other materials. - Manual dexterity: The employee must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to use a computer mouse and keyboard, as well as to perform tasks such as filing, sorting, and organizing. Must be capable of physically assembling equipment, mounting and racking as required. - Mobility: The employee must be able to move around easily and quickly and be able to crawl, kneel, and bend to access equipment in tight spaces. - Lifting and carrying: The employee must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment, typically up to 50 pounds. The average lift is less than 20 lbs. - Protective Gear: Must be able to wear protective gear, including hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves. - Heights: Ability to climb ladders (approximately 8 feet) and work at heights These Skills Will Help You Succeed in This Role: - Exceptionally strong IT background with a focus on network support, implementation, and remote as well as onsite support - Expert knowledge of the following technologies: - Microsoft 365 Platform, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams and Teams Voice, Security & Compliance Center, Microsoft 365 Apps and OneDrive for Business - Windows and Mac OS desktop operating systems - Microsoft Azure/Entra - Active Directory/DNS/Group Policy/PowerShell - Mobility - Networking - VPN Implementation - Deploying and building Windows servers (troubleshooting, supporting, and implementing). - Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies - Knowledge of firewalls, networking/routing (switches, routers, etc.), and wireless configurations - Exceptionally strong problem-solving, planning skills and follow-through skills. Here’s What We’re Looking For: - Relevant degree or equivalent qualifications with experience in technology - Minimum 5 years of relevant M365 work experience. - Advanced knowledge and experience configuring, troubleshooting, and managing Microsoft Azure, M365, Cyber Security controls - Networking fundamentals and enterprise architecture best practices - Ability to handle critical technical issues and work in difficult support situations. - Ability to handle difficult or sensitive situations with exasperated customers. - Eligibility for security clearance is essential. - Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle - Previous experience troubleshooting IT and related hardware and software components and providing onsite and remote/phone support in a fast-paced environment - Excellent communication and documentation skills at all levels - Understanding of managed services and the value offered over a typical break-fix environment - Self-starter with a positive attitude - Strong sense of initiative and ownership over work - Customer service skills including patience, empathy, confidence, and the ability to work with a myriad of businesses and personalities What Would Bring Me to the Top of the List? - Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology - M365 Certifications - An understanding of and experience working within the IT managed services provider business model, particularly in an IT project delivery and support role - Experience with HaloPSA, or other similar MSP tools and software. - Experience delivering complex cloud solutions (M365/Entra) - Consulting background Preferred Certifications: - Microsoft O365 Current Certifications - - MD-100, MD-101 Modern Desktop Administrator Assoc. - MS-300: Deploying Microsoft 365 Teamwork, MS-203: Microsoft 365 Messaging, MCSE: Productivity Solutions Expert - Other Why should you work here? - Strong company culture of unity, transparency, and trust; supportive leadership team - Salary based on past success, certifications and experience - Awesome, modern office located within walking distance to great coffee shops and restaurants - Shared group/health advantages plans, including a retirement plan - Team building and company events where you can get to know your teammates on a more personal level The statements above are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
