Description
Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Our Team Semtech's Signal Integrity Products group designs analog and mixed-signal Integrated Circuits used in high performance optical and electrical networks. Our high-speed chips enable systems such as hyperscale data centres, 5G wireless, fibre-to-the-home networks and ultra-fast connectivity within AI networks. Whenever you are using the internet, from your phone or computer, your data is likely passing through one or more of the many high-speed analog mixed-signal chips created by IC Design teams at Semtech. Our experience and expertise ensure that we are always pushing the boundaries of networking speed and providing the best experience for our end users. Job Summary As a Senior / Principal Analog IC Design Engineer, you will design, verify, and evaluate high-speed (200 Gb/s and beyond) analog circuits utilizing advanced CMOS and BiCMOS technologies. You will be using industry standard EDA and simulation tools and will have the opportunity to contribute to improving design best-practices and methodologies. An important aspect of the position is to mentor junior engineers, enabling the successful candidate to build upon their leadership skills. Additional career development opportunities include a mix of virtual learning, in-person courses, and technical conferences. The Candidate - The candidate will be a proven leader in designing high-speed data communications products. We are also interested in hearing from candidates with high-speed or RF IC design experience from other applications. - The ideal candidate will have an excellent background in semiconductor fundamentals and understanding of device physics. - This an excellent opportunity to exploit and further develop your IC design skills as part of a highly successful team. Responsibilities - Design of high-speed IC products from concept through manufacture, to schedule. - Lead engineer delivering high performance IC product designs. - Establish and implement architectures and circuits for high-performance systems. - Provide technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced design engineers. - Work effectively with cross functional teams (marketing, sales, applications, product/test engineering) to deliver IC Products. - Assess product feasibility and product development, to schedule. - Prepare technical reviews and product documentation. - Lab evaluation and optimization of high-speed analog circuits. Preferred Qualifications - Design expertise in high-speed CMOS and BiCMOS analog circuits operating beyond 200 Gb/s. - Deep knowledge of RF concepts, device models, parasitics and other non-idealities affecting circuit performance. - Proven track record of taking high performance IC designs from concept through to volume production, with a successful commercial outcome. - Thorough understanding of device physics as applied to integrated circuits and analog circuit theory. - Thorough knowledge of circuits such as equalizers, VCOs, PLLs, CDRs, TIAs, laser drivers, SerDes, etc. as implemented in mixed-signal integrated circuits. - Expertise with advanced analog CAD tools, particularly Cadence Virtuoso, RF modelling (EMX or HFSS). Matlab or other system modelling software is an asset. - Hands‑on experience with high-speed lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, bit‑error rate testers, oscilloscopes, etc. - Strong organizational and verbal and written communications skills with an ability to lead technical teams to success. - BSc degree in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering (PhD or master’s degree preferred) and at least 7 years’ experience in the field.
