This role is part of the Data Acquisition and Test Engineering Tools team and plays a key role in enabling reliable, scalable production of next‑generation modem technologies. The position focuses on building and supporting software used on Ciena production lines worldwide, working closely with product design, test engineering, and manufacturing teams to bring advanced connectivity solutions into high‑volume production environments. How You Will Make An Impact - Design and implement software tools, frameworks, and applications for Windows and cloud‑based platforms that support data collection and test automation - Deliver end‑to‑end software solutions across presentation, application, business logic, and data access layers - Build robust, scalable, and well‑documented software using continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and agile development methodologies - Drive standardization of new and existing test software frameworks across production environments - Support test engineering teams in adopting new technologies that enhance or replace existing test solutions - Collaborate with electrical, optical, systems, and research and development teams to define requirements and specifications for software deliverables - Share best practices and provide technical guidance to engineering teams supporting process and test automation The Must Haves - Software development experience: 3+ years of hands‑on experience in object‑oriented software development, preferably using C# and .NET - Cloud technologies: Experience implementing serverless, cloud‑based solutions, preferably using Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure - Source control and CI/CD: Knowledge of source control management systems, continuous improvement tools, and peer code review practices, preferably using Git, Subversion (SVN), Bamboo, and Artifactory - Troubleshooting skills: Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in complex software environments - Web technologies: Experience with TypeScript, Angular, SCSS, and ASP.NET - API design: Experience designing and implementing Representational State Transfer (REST) services - Development practices: Familiarity with test‑driven development methodologies - User experience: Understanding of user experience best practices - Software fundamentals: Familiarity with software design patterns and data structures - Agile tools: Familiarity with agile software development tools, including Jira - Data science exposure: Practical experience with data science principles and methodologies Nice To Haves - Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams across multiple geographies - Work style: Self‑motivated, well‑organized, with a willingness to learn - Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills - Prioritization: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet aggressive deadlines while maintaining quality - Innovation mindset: Curiosity to experiment with new technologies to solve existing problems - Domain knowledge: Experience in instrumentation, optics, or telecommunications - Manufacturing systems: Experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems Pay Range The salary range for this role in Ottawa is $76, 700 - $122, 500 Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
