Description
Company Profile Dynacast Peterborough is known for its multi-slide technology, standard die casting with integrated automation, and IMA (Injected Metal Assembly) precision zinc manufacturing. IMA offers a unique process where precision tooling is combined with metal alloys and is used to join multiple components into a ready-to-use assembly with a single operation. Dynacast Peterborough is dedicated to designing, building, manufacturing, and delivering quality die cast components. Below are additional details about what is offered at the Peterborough location:

40 multi-slide proprietary zinc die casting machines ranging from 12 to 21 tons

Five multi-slide proprietary zinc die casting machines ranging from 70 to 200 tons

Injected Metal Assembly (IMA) up to one ton

Precision tool building with in-house capabilities

Design, prototyping, and modeling services

Wide range of finishing surfaces available including tumbling, polishing, shot blasting and thermal de-burring

Cosmetic or protective coating equipment either through certified suppliers or in-house

Wide range of secondary operations including CNC machining, tapping, reaming, and drilling

About the Role The Machinist will efficiently, effectively and precisely operate conventional machining equipment (Mill, Lathe, horizontal and vertical Hone, Lap, Centreless Grinder, Universal Cylindrical Grinder, Surface Grinder, J1G Grinder, Heat Treat Furnaces, other hand tools and all future machines) to produce die components, machine and tool renewal parts, fixturing, assembly and repairs of injection unit assemblies.

Key Duties&Responsibilities Operating required machining equipment to produce components, machine and tool renewal parts, and fixturing, and assemble and repair all injection unit assemblies to print specifications and tolerances, to meet production needs and customer delivery commitments.

Thoroughly review Engineering drawings and sketches/blueprints, identify and obtain type of material, manufacturing method, required dimensions, specific sizes and tolerances, and determine if estimate can be achieved;

Calculate work piece set-up to achieve design features, and determine machine parameters required to achieve maximum metal removal, best possible finish, and size and tool life;

Stage work piece, establish the zero datum point to set the tool, and machine through the various stages and operations;

Visually inspect and use appropriate measuring tools at various stages of machining process to ensure dimensional compliance, document data, input work hours into system to close, and physically move the product to the next operation/station, as required;

Consult with the Toolmaker/Designer/Engineering and/or Supervisor to resolve machining/operations issues identified that may impact quality part production, revise set‑up and machining programs as required, and identify and document modifications to improve productivity, reliability and safety of the product or process;

Make, grind, dress and sharpen any special tool bits, tool bits, cutters, boring tools, etc. as required for odd shapes and special applications;

Notify Planners or Program Managers of issues regarding meeting timelines and identified priorities.

To perform miscellaneous routine operations and Preventative Maintenance (P.M.) functions to support efficient machine and department operations.

Make gauges and fixtures as required;

Suggest, implement and document modifications to improve productivity, reliability and safety of component/part manufacturing;

Clean and organize department/shop equipment, complete P.M. activities, and ensure documentation of completed activities;

Stamp and clean new die parts;

Complete basic clerical duties as required.
