Reports to: Director, Corporate Fire&Emergency Management Location: Primarily on-site; Chalk River, ON (relocation assistance available) Overview
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) is seeking an experienced Fire Protection Manager to lead Fire Technical Services and Fire Systems teams across multiple sites. This corporate-level role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, optimizes fire protection processes, and provides strategic oversight for fire safety programs supporting diverse projects.Responsibilities
Provide managerial oversight to engineering and technical teams, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective inspection and maintenance of fire protection systems. Act as the primary interface with internal business units, projects, and external industry partners. Oversee adherence to CSA standards, NFPA codes, and other regulatory requirements.Drive process optimization and efficiency improvements across fire protection programs. Build and develop a strong team by filling critical vacancies and fostering a culture of safety and collaboration. Ensure timely completion of regulatory commitments and maintain strong communication with external regulators and stakeholders.Manage fire system outages and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain compliance. Develop annual fire technical services and fire systems operations plans, including budget requirements and upgrade priorities. Lead and promote training and development initiatives to maintain a highly skilled team.Serve as the single point of contact for fire protection program support on projects, ensuring hazard screening and compliance reviews are completed. Optimize fire protection processes and implement efficiency improvements. Regulatory compliance and operational excellence across all sites. Improved processes and smarter ways of working. A fully staffed, high-performing team delivering exceptional fire protection services including filling current vacancies.Professional Qualifications&Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; P.Eng. designation highly desirable. Experience: 8–10 years in Fire Protection Engineering leadership or related field. Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, National Fire Code, CSA N293/N393. Experience in regulated industries (nuclear preferred; oil&gas acceptable). Leadership: Proven ability to manage unionized teams with empathy and effectiveness. Technical Skills: Familiarity with fire protection systems, inspections, and compliance processes. Why Join Us?
