Description
Responsibilities Operate, monitor, and perform maintenance on all chillers, cooling towers, steam boilers, hot water boilers and their auxiliary and ancillary equipment, promptly respond to their alarms, troubleshoot, and fix or isolate issues. Work independently and exercise sound judgment during stressful times. Clean and maintain cooling towers, chiller tubes, and fire chambers of hot water and steam boilers. Perform maintenance on air compressors, air dryers, actuators, regulators, valves, and airlines as required. Act as first responder to fire alarms and other emergency codes, including fire alarm panels and related equipment upon the request of the Fire Marshall. Respond to elevator troubles, initiate elevator service for breakdowns and entrapments, and inform the Supervisor of any emergency service. Respond to general maintenance and trouble calls as requested, troubleshoot, repair, or control the problem, and consult the Supervisor for after‑hour service calls. Inspect plant equipment and facility mechanical rooms daily and fill out the necessary log sheets. Test, calibrate, measure, and adjust control devices and space environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, and airflow throughout the facility, including patient isolation rooms. Close preventive maintenance and routine work orders on the PDA after completing work assignments. Maintain log books and write reports as required and requested. Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required and as assigned by the Supervisor. Qualifications Must be certified as a BC Power Engineer Class 4. Three to five years of field experience, preferably in healthcare, is considered a strong asset. Must comply with a rotational shift work schedule – this site is a 24‑hour maintained facility. Excellent knowledge of HVAC, medical gas, BAS, and plumbing systems. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to assess and solve problems, and know when to request assistance to prevent escalation. Valuable organizational skills. Desire to learn and upgrade technical skills. Comfortable using computer technology. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. Ability to perform duties that vary frequently according to assignment.
