Process Control Engineering Co‑op Role Overview Duration: 8 months, start date: September 2026. This temporary full‑time position targets students with experience in process control, particularly those studying Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, Metallurgy, Chemical, or Mechanical. Candidates must be third or fourthyear students and currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post‑secondary institution.
Key Responsibilities
Be a safety leader and adhere to safety and environmental rules.
Safely and effectively work in an industrial plant environment.
Support upgrading, development, and maintenance of process control systems.
Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to improve process control.
Gather and analyze data to identify trends, determine root causes, and develop solutions.
Collaborate with engineering and operations to organize, schedule, manage costs, and monitor project progress.
Day‑to‑day troubleshooting with understanding of industrial processes and equipment.
Process simulation, advanced process control, and optimization strategy development.
Improve quality of existing documentation.
Qualifications
Interest in process control and relevant background in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, Metallurgy, Chemical or Mechanical.
Knowledge of Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers, including hardware, architecture, software and control logic.
Experience in data analysis and process simulation using Python and/or MATLAB.
Familiarity with drawing programs such as AutoCAD and Visio.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Motivated self‑starter, able to manage multiple projects.
Comfortable with dynamic work environments, ability to work outdoors, and operating vehicles in varying conditions.
Strong written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications Must be a third or fourth year student currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post‑secondary institution and return after the co‑op term. Willingness to relocate or commute to Trail, BC during the co‑op. Proof of valid work permit will be required.
