Mechanical Engineer – Pressure Boundary & Analysis BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. (BWXT NEC) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Pressure Boundary & Analysis for the Peterborough, Ontario site. The role reports to the Pressure Boundary & Analysis Engineering Manager and involves setting technical direction and acting as the main technical interface for internal and external customers. The Engineering function focuses on design and analysis of pressure‑retaining systems and components for CANDU reactors, automated fuelling machines, medical isotope systems, robotic systems, and maintenance tooling. Responsibilities - Lead design, analysis, test, commissioning activities for complex mechanical equipment throughout the product life cycle. - Prepare, approve or lead design documentation, technical specifications, development and test plans, and engineering quotations. - Prepare and verify 3‑D modelling for conceptual design and perform stress analysis. - Apply and lead DFMA techniques. - Provide technical support to CAD, procurement, manufacturing, test, quality, commissioning and service personnel. - Participate in and lead internal and external meetings, such as design reviews, presenting technical data. - Prepare and/or verify project level deliverables including evaluations, reports, and assessments. - Use classical and modern (finite element) stress calculation techniques for components, piping systems, supports and vessels. - Maintain knowledge of Canadian nuclear codes and standards. - Meet engineering and product excellence, manage design activity, deliver on time/on budget and produce defect‑free designs. - Ensure compliance with process, quality systems, policies and contractual requirements. - Present status, issues, improvements, and resource needs to leadership. - Provide overall project technical leadership (PTL) duties for projects as required. - Lead process change and technology introduction for world‑class product development. - Build customer relationships and ensure market alignment. - Drive proposal development and review, scope review, estimate preparation and technical presentations to customers; may act as Proposal Estimate Lead. - Identify project risks, analyze solutions and take decisive action to resolve issues and communicate to executive team. - Provide technical direction and oversight of design activities; review and verify documentation and/or drawings. - Ensure health and safety for all project activities. - Short‑term travel may be required to meet clients and stakeholders. Qualifications - B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. - Current PEO license. - Approximately 10 years’ experience in design engineering in regulated industries such as nuclear, aerospace, mining, oil and gas. - At least 3 years’ experience in design and development with proven success in a technical leadership role. - Experience leading engineering projects and being a key design team member for complex projects over their complete EPC life cycles. - Demonstrable experience with project schedules, budgets, financial metrics and other project management methodologies. - Broad experience in systems design, requirements development, interface design and testing. - Exposure to interdisciplinary departments such as systems, I&C;, software design and manufacturing. - Excellent written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences. - Strong problem‑solving, analytical, leadership and teamwork skills. - Flexibility to work remotely on short‑term customer site assignments. - Creative and innovative thinkers. Desired Characteristics - Experience with 3‑D CAD software (Inventor or SolidWorks) and FEA software (ANSYS APDL & Workbench, Caesar II, PEPS, AutoPIPE). - Experience in the CANDU nuclear industry. - Familiarity with CSA nuclear codes and standards. - Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and other ASME standards. - Competency in process system, pressure vessel or pressure boundary component design. BWXT confirms the position is a current vacancy. The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $85,000 and $107,410 per year. Additional compensation may include an annual cash incentive and other perks package.
