Overview: Our client, an engineering firm specializing in renewable energy, water, and environmental solutions, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer. This role focuses on hands-on mechanical design work, supporting the design, upgrade, and rehabilitation of equipment and systems used in hydroelectric facilities, including water flow structures and related mechanical components. This full-time position is open to candidates located in Halifax, NS or Peterborough, ON. Pay range: $86,000 - $120,000 CAD DOE Benefits: - Comprehensive medical/dental/vision package - 401(k) with 4% employer match and 100% immediate vesting - 10 Floating Holidays - Company Paid Short-Term Disability and Life Insurance - Paid Parental Leave - Tuition Assistance - Employee Ownership Responsibilities: - Perform mechanical engineering design and analysis for complex infrastructure and energy related projects - Develop practical engineering solutions for unique design challenges involving mechanical and hydraulic systems - Contribute to the design of mechanical components and systems, including turbines, gates, piping, pumping systems, and related equipment - Support retrofit, rehabilitation, and new build projects from concept through construction - Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical drawings, specifications, and reports - Utilize 3D modeling and integrated design tools to support project development and coordination - Apply engineering judgment to assess constructability, safety, performance, and reliability of designs - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout all phases of project delivery - Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, or installation activities as needed - Communicate effectively with internal teams, project partners, and clients in a consulting environment - Participate in technical reviews, design meetings, and project discussions - Adhere to applicable engineering standards, codes, and regulatory requirements - Support continuous learning, professional development, and growth within the engineering discipline Requirements: - Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Skilled Engineer (P.Eng) license - Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering - 4+ year of experience; 3 of which must be acceptable and verifiable for the Engineering Board of your province - Hydropower experience required - Experience working in an integrated design environment and 3-D modeling (Revit, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Self-motivated, growth oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities - Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) - Experience with machine or facility design, including oil systems, water pumping systems, piping, or hydraulic/pneumatic machinery - Experience supporting construction, commissioning, or field activities - Consulting experience related to infrastructure, energy, or water resources - Experience contributing to complex or nonstandard design solutions - Familiarity with hydraulic or hydromechanical systems - Must possess permanent authorization to work in Canada - Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license Work sponsorship is not available at this time.
