Description
This position reports to the Containerized waste Supervisor. The holder will work on the plant floor and be responsible for categorizing and processing incoming/outgoing liquid and solid waste streams. Processing could include bulking, pumping using a vacuum truck or waste disposal by chemical reaction. The position is responsible for ensuring documentation associated with the waste receiving, processing and transportation complies with the applicable provincial and federal regulations and legislation. The administrative duties include data entry and the generation of weekly and monthly waste inventories REPORTS TO Containerized Waste Supervisor LOCATION Pickering, ON Duties and Responsibilities: - Maintain up to date inventory of onsite waste - Perform regular field tests of various chemicals to identify if the liquid is acidic alkaline, neutral, or flammable. - Perform chemical waste management and disposal activities - Learn and comply with all legislation regarding Reg.347, TDG and WHIMIS - Sample waste material - Bulk waste and lab pack materials - De-pack materials and chemical processing - Assist in on-site spill response - Become knowledgeable in the operation of a vacuum truck - Operate forklift - General housekeeping - Load and unload trailers and box trucks - Perform equipment and facility inspections - Other tasks as assigned - Morning and afternoon rotational shift work required Education, Credentials, Skills and Experience Required - Post-Secondary education in Chemistry/Chemical Technology. Relevant work experience and/or Internship in a related field will be considered - Good understanding of potential chemical reactions (compatibility) - Valuable understanding of performing chemical reactions (disposal) - Competent computer skills (Google Sheets/Docs) - Strong interpersonal skills - Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment - Must be extremely safety conscious and detail oriented - Strong organizational and communication skills - Ability to follow procedures and work with minimum supervision - Capable of wearing a respirator - Willing to work overtime, alternate shifts and occasional weekends #GFLTalent We thank you for your interest.
