We are seeking an experienced Contract Merchandising Trainer to join our team, that has at least 5 yrs. experience working in a fast paced environment- preferably in season Garden Centre or the Landscaping industry
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of retail merchandising principles, particularly within the context of garden and outdoor living products. This role will involve delivering training programs to improve merchandising standards, planogram execution to enhance product presentation and drive sales within Garden Centre environments
The role will require 3-4 days in field with work availability between 7am-7pm on a flexible schedule to support the field teams as required
Contract: April 7th-June 7th approximately 24-30 hrs. per week and MUST have personal transportation with the ability to travel to 3-4 locations daily within the Lower Mainland
Key Responsibilities Training Program Execution
Execute and modify training programs tailored to the specific needs of Garden Centre staff learning requirements to provide superior customer service and Garden Centre care and standards
Ensure training content aligns with company objectives, brand standards and industry best practices
Merchandising Techniques
Instruct staff on effective merchandising techniques to maximize product visibility and sales
Teach principles of product placement, signage, and planogram movement to enhance the customer shopping experience
Provide guidance on inventory management and product maintenance strategies to optimize stock levels and reduce shrinkage
Product Knowledge
Educate employees on the features, benefits of all varieties in Garden Centre
Conduct product knowledge training and facilitate hands‑on learning experiences to deepen staff knowledge
Best Practices
Train teams in managing displays that highlight key product categories and rotation of varieties based on sales needs
Implement strategies for maintaining cleanliness, organization, and aesthetic appeal throughout the Garden Centre
Managing incoming inventory&shrink management
Customer Engagement
Teach customer service skills and techniques for engaging with shoppers in the Garden Centre environment
Provide guidance on addressing customer inquiries, resolving complaints and upselling related products
Instill a customer‑centric mindset among staff, emphasizing the importance of creating positive shopping experiences
Performance Evaluation
Assess training effectiveness through observation, feedback sessions and ongoing coaching
Identify areas for improvement and adjust training strategies accordingly to achieve desired outcomes
Collaborate with management to develop better tools for a quick and effective process
Qualifications
Proven experience in retail merchandising within the Garden Centre environment
Strong knowledge of merchandising principles, visual presentation techniques and inventory management practices
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and motivate diverse teams
Demonstrated proficiency in designing and delivering training programs
Passion for gardening, outdoor living, and related products, with a genuine enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with others
Flexibility to travel to multiple locations as needed and work on a contract basis
