Role Overview With ongoing growth, we are looking to add an Electrical Engineer or Senior Electrical Engineer with hands-on control panel design experience to join our engineering team at our Port Coquitlam head office. This role spans the full project lifecycle — from initial scoping, selection, and estimating through to production support and troubleshooting. You will work closely with our production and sales teams, as well as suppliers and clients to deliver high-quality control panels that meet specifications, code, and customer expectations. Key Responsibilities Design & Documentation - Design custom electrical control panels including layout, schematics, wiring and power diagrams, and general arrangement (GA) drawings. - Generate detailed bills of materials (BOMs) with full component specifications. - Produce production-ready documentation packages for manufacturing. - Red-line electrical drawings to capture as-built changes during production and commissioning. Component Selection & Procurement Support - Select and specify electrical components appropriate to application requirements, voltage class, and client specifications. - Support procurement with sourcing of electrical hardware, components, and equipment. - Collaborate with sales to assess technical feasibility and provide engineering estimates during quotation process. Production, Pre-Commissioning & Troubleshooting - Work directly with the production team to support manufacturing, resolve any design challenges during production to deliver quality product. - Support troubleshooting of panels and control systems during testing, commissioning, and field startup as required. - Configure devices including HMIs, VFD parameters, instrument transmitters as needed. Standards & Continuous Improvement - Ensure all designs comply with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA standards, and relevant UL/NFPA requirements. - Coordinate with clients and end users on technical requirements, design approvals, and application-specific challenges. - Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates, and internal design processes. Required Qualifications - Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution. - Minimum 3 years of direct experience in electrical control panel design and engineering in an industrial environment (5–7 years preferred for Senior level). - Strong working knowledge of control panel design, component selection, and 3-phase electrical systems. - Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent). - Solid understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable CSA standards. - Ability to read, interpret, and produce single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and panel layouts. - Hands-on troubleshooting ability — comfortable on the shop floor and at a client site for occasional reviews. - Robust communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working across sales, procurement, and production teams. Desirable Assets - P.Eng. designation in BC, or actively working toward P.Eng. registration (EIT status with EGBC). - Experience with servo drive applications (Festo, Siemens, or similar servo/motion control platforms). - Experience with ABB variable frequency drives and related power products. - Familiarity with power quality analysis and harmonic mitigation solutions. - Experience designing panels for industrial sectors such as mining, oil & gas, forestry, or water/wastewater. - Knowledge of PLC programming and integration (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ABB, or similar). - Experience with industrial network protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/RTU).
