Description
The Position: Network Architect CANARIE has an immediate opening for Network Architect. The Network Architect will be accountable for contributing to the implementation, operation, and ongoing support of CANARIE’s production network infrastructure. This is a current full-time, permanent position that reports to CANARIE’s Senior Manager, Network. The salary range for this role is between $125,000 to $162,000. Key Responsibilities Operate the CANARIE Network with a focus on responsiveness and reliability Develop and maintain documentation, including requirements, and specifications Guide designs for technical soundness, and make key infrastructure decisions Guide network architecture and equipment development Drive deployment of advanced network services and technologies Collaborate with network architects, software developers, and security professionals Guide operations as a member of the Network Engineering team On a rotation basis, providing 24 x 7 on call support for the CANARIE network Travel may occasionally be required Other related duties and responsibilities, as required The Ideal Candidate To excel at CANARIE, you have a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively on teams and are also an energetic self-starter with the self‑motivation to work independently. What You Bring Education and Experience College diploma or university degree or a suitable combination of education, experience, or other relevant training Minimum of 7 years of relevant progressive experience in designing, configurating and operating highly available, production wide area network infrastructure Experience with carriers and vendors, facilitating service delivery and equipment installation Experience with project management, including planning, execution, and delivery of technical initiatives Experience with datacenter and telecom sites is desirable Skills Ability to clearly communicate technical information Ability to lead collaborative efforts Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving to address complex network infrastructure challenges Excellent consultative, analytical, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated ability to gain trust and credibility from interest holders Strong understanding of IPv4/IPv6, BGP (policy and troubleshooting), L2/L3 VPN, and MPLS/Segment Routing in production environments Experience operating network platforms with high availability and fault tolerance, including change execution, rollback planning, and incident-driven troubleshooting Proficiency with Nokia SR OS and ability to work across other network operating systems (e.g., Junos, IOS) as required Working knowledge of network security and hardening fundamentals Leveraging scripting (e.g., Bash/Python) to improve repeatability of operational tasks, considered desirable Basic knowledge of optical networking fundamentals, including ROADM concepts and optical power/OSNR, considered desirable Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite Come Work with Us We are committed to employment equity and encourage anyone who can contribute to the diversification of ideas and perspectives to apply.
