Janitor/cleaner Prince Albert

Job Title:Janitor / Custodian Location: House of the Potter Reports To: Director / Facility Manager Job Summary The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, secure, and welcoming environment at House of the Potter. This role ensures that all areas of the facility meet cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards, supporting a healthy space for children, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting Clean and sanitize washrooms, classrooms, offices, kitchens, and common areas Disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly (door handles, light switches, toys, etc.) Empty garbage and recycling bins; ensure proper waste disposal Restock cleaning and hygiene supplies (paper towels, soap, toilet paper, etc.) Maintain floors (strip, wax, buff as required) Clean windows, walls, and fixtures as scheduled Assist with seasonal deep cleaning and special cleaning projects Identify and report maintenance or repair needs to management Ensure cleaning equipment is properly used, maintained, and stored Follow all health, safety, and sanitation regulations Support infection control practices, especially in early learning environments Qualifications & Requirements Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Strong attention to detail Physically able to lift, bend, stand, and perform repetitive tasks Understanding of workplace health and safety standards Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector) may be required Skills & Attributes Reliable and trustworthy Strong work ethic Respectful and professional in a child-centered workplace Ability to maintain confidentiality Positive attitude and willingness to support the team Working Conditions May require early mornings, evenings, or weekends Exposure to cleaning chemicals (PPE provided) Active role requiring physical movement throughout the shift Why Work at House of the Potter?
