Job Type: Full Time Remote (Hybrid option available for those in the Ottawa area - 55 Murray Street Office) Total Compensation: CAD $105,000.00 - $145,000.00 base salary - Placement within range based on experience and qualifications As an Intermediate Frontend Engineer, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the user-facing interfaces of our mission-critical software. You will implement and maintain reusable React components, develop responsive and accessible UIs, integrate with backend APIs, and uphold frontend quality through robust testing practices. You will work closely with product owners, designers, and backend engineers to translate requirements into performant and maintainable user experiences. In this role, you will contribute to frontend decisions, champion component design practices, and ensure the reliability of your work through unit, integration, and end-to-end testing (using libraries and frameworks such as React Testing Library and Playwright). We are looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented engineer who takes pride in clean, well-tested code and thrives in environments where precision and reliability are not just best practices; This is a full-time position based in Ottawa / Remote. Eligible candidates must either possess or be eligible to obtain a Government of Canada Top Secret security clearance. Security Clearance Eligible for Government of Canada Top Secret security clearance 3+ of hands‑on experience building production applications with React 3+ years of experience with modern CSS (CSS Modules, Tailwind, or equivalent), including responsive and accessible design Demonstrated experience with component design — building reusable, composable, and well‑documented UI components Proven experience integrating with REST APIs for CRUD operations within React applications Working experience with React Testing Library for unit and integration testing Working experience with Playwright for end‑to‑end testing Strong understanding of React fundamentals, including hooks, state management, and component lifecycle Solid grasp of frontend performance considerations and best practices Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical decisions to both technical and non‑technical audiences Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and sprint-based development cycles Experience working in or closely with defence, public safety, or national security organizations Contribute to and uphold frontend designs and coding standards across the engineering team Integrate frontend features with backend APIs to support full workflow operations Handle asynchronous data flows, loading states, and error handling with care and consistency Collaborate with backend engineers to define and refine API contracts Testing & Quality Write unit tests using React Testing Library to validate component behaviour and business logic Contribute to integration and end‑to‑end test suites using Playwright to ensure critical user workflows remain reliable Participate in code reviews, providing and incorporating constructive feedback to uphold code quality Identify and resolve frontend defects early in the development cycle, documenting issues with clear reproduction steps and impact assessments Project Support & Communication Participate actively in sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives Communicate development progress and technical blockers to stakeholders clearly and proactively Work closely with cross-functional teams to maintain and exceed quality and delivery standards you'll be part of a team of dedicated professionals who share a common goal: to increase the safety and security of Western democracies through the effective use of data. it's a community of like‑minded people working together to make a positive impact on the world we live in.
