Mechanical Engineer – Transport Packages and Sealed Source Engineering The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, testing and ongoing technical and manufacturing support of sealed sources and transport packages used for the shipment of radioisotopes. Key Responsibilities Apply a fully proficient and in-depth knowledge of engineering principles and standards. Lead or participate in all aspects of the design, licensing and manufacture of sealed sources and transport packages. This will include leading the design process; coordinating prototype manufacture; performing safety analyses; creating test specifications, coordinating and executing testing; compiling results and generating reports; and designing or modifying production processes. Lead mechanical engineering projects and be fully accountable to meet defined budgets, schedules, and functionality requirements, commensurate with your work experience. Be responsible for engineering approval on current or modified source and package designs to ensure they have met all the applicable engineering, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Stay current with the requirements for and capabilities of Nordion sources and packages in order to respond to complex queries from regulators and customers. Be able to provide task guidance and quality control for activities of other team members. Qualifications Education: Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical) Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience in mechanical engineering Certificates: Professional Engineer designation or eligibility for accreditation as a qualified engineer. Technical Experience and Competencies Design and engineering analysis of mechanical systems and components. Design, prototyping, testing and troubleshooting of mechanical or electromechanical equipment. Design, refinement, implementation and documentation of manufacturing processes. Demonstrated experience as an engineer in the capacity of subject matter expert. Excellent verbal communication skills. Must be able to clearly explain points of compliance or deficiency of sources or transport packages. Proven ability to exercise judgment on complex decisions falling outside standard practices and procedures. Experience providing technical recommendations with limited review from senior staff, providing technical guidance to other engineers and to technicians, and providing review and feedback on technical items. Prepare reports for distribution to various groups, outlining technical details, results or conclusions. Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment on complex decisions falling outside standard practices and procedures. Effective team player. Excellent technical writing skills. Additional Experience Considered an Asset Familiarity with welding, welding equipment and/or welding design. Understanding of various methods and technologies used for leak testing of critical components and systems. Competency in finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics using ANSYS or SolidWorks software tools. Experience with SolidWorks. Experience adhering to regulations and interacting with regulatory bodies. Additional Requirements Occasional overtime to meet project requirements. Occasional travel requirements.
