Network Support Specialist (Level 2) Employment Type Contract (Bid-Based) Compensation Contract bidding rate between $25–$35+/hour CAD, based on experience Work Model Hybrid Security Requirement Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. Position Overview The Network Support Specialist (Level 2) provides operational support for distributed network environments and interconnectivity with partner networks. The role focuses on network monitoring, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, access control implementation, and operational support activities to ensure system confidentiality, integrity, availability, and security. Complex architecture, engineering, and design activities will be escalated to senior technical staff. Key Responsibilities Provide day-to-day operational support for distributed network environments and related enclave networks, including incident triage, ticket management, and troubleshooting. Monitor network health and performance using approved monitoring toolsets. Investigate, document, and escalate alarms and operational anomalies. Implement approved access control changes, including ACL updates, VLAN assignments, port security, and device account modifications. Support operational exercises, demonstrations, experimentation, and training activities by staging equipment and validating connectivity. Perform installation, racking/stacking, labeling, and basic configuration of network infrastructure devices such as switches and routers. Maintain and update technical documentation including network diagrams, inventories, IPAM records, and site documentation. Assist with accreditation evidence collection and compliance documentation. Support IP address management and maintain IP mapping accuracy. Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance including: Configuration backups Firmware and OS checks Interface utilization reviews Perform basic vulnerability assessments and apply approved hardening baselines and patches. Support core network services including DHCP, DNS, NTP, and AAA/TACACS administration under established procedures. Troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues across supported environments. Communicate technical updates, operational status, and shift hand-offs clearly to stakeholders and team members. Develop and maintain SOPs, runbooks, and quick-reference guides. Prepare monthly activity reports summarizing incidents, changes, and documentation updates. Mandatory Criteria MC-1 : The proposed resource must meet one of the following: A minimum of five (5) years of experience within the last ten (10) years configuring, installing, and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls in a Wide Area Network (WAN) or Local Area Network (LAN) workplace; OR A minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last ten (10) years configuring, installing, and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls in a WAN or LAN environment, and a university degree in computer science or network engineering, a college diploma in a related field, or a valid Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification. The experience must include tasks involving VLAN management, access control lists (ACLs), IP subnetting, OSPF and BGP routing protocols, and GRE tunnels. MC-2 : The proposed resource must demonstrate the ability to clearly and accurately articulate detailed network configuration information across a broad range of networking technologies, including: OSPF and BGP routing protocols Subnetting and IP addressing Network protocols and well-known ports VLANs Tunneling and overlay technologies (e.g., GRE, DMVPN) Access Control Lists (ACLs) Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) To be deemed responsive, the Bidder must provide: At least one (1) project description that clearly demonstrates the resource’s experience configuring, analyzing, or troubleshooting each of the technologies listed above. A company name and reference for the work completed. A description of the resource’s role and responsibilities on the referenced project(s), detailing how they applied these networking technologies in an operational, enterprise, or defence environment. Dates and duration for each project provided, along with the client or organization where the work was performed. If possible, specific examples showing the resource’s ability to explain or document complex network configurations (e.g., network design documents, configuration guides, routing analyses, or equivalent). Rating Criteria R1: Technical Interview (100 points max) During the interview process, the candidate will be asked to answer 10 technical questions that directly relate to the technologies stated in the mandatory criteria 1 & 2. This will evaluate their level of knowledge with these technologies. The specific subjects the candidate will be evaluated on are listed below. Subnetting (10 points) VLANs + trunking (10 points) ACL logic (10 points) OSPF neighbors (10 points) OSPF design hygiene (passive interfaces + advertising) (10 points) BGP fundamentals (10 points) Well-known ports (10 points) STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) (10 points) GRE tunnel basics (10 points) DMVPN (10 points) R2: Certifications & Education – Scoring Framework This scoring framework assigns objective point values to certifications and formal education. It is intended to complement the technical interview score.
