TRS Staffing Solutions has exciting opportunities for a Design Safety Engineer role to work for one of Canada's top employers and a global leader in the Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management industry. Role Summary This role focuses on working within the design phase to review deliverables, influence engineering decisions, and reduce construction and operational risks before they reach the field. This position will support mining and heavy industrial projects by integrating safety into engineering design. Responsibilities Participate in design reviews, model reviews, and engineering coordination meetings Review engineering deliverables (layouts, GAs, 3D models, specifications) to identify constructability and safety risks Analyze construction sequencing / path of construction and recommend design improvements Collaborate with engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, process) to embed safety into design decisions Support structured safety reviews (e.g., HAZOPs, risk assessments, design safety reviews) Track and help implement design changes through key engineering milestones (FEED, detailed design) Provide practical input on installation, access, maintenance, and operability considerations Qualifications & Experience Background as a Project Engineer, Area Engineer, Constructability Engineer, or Discipline Engineer within an EPCM or engineering consulting environment Experience supporting basic and/or detailed engineering phases Hands‑on involvement in design reviews, model reviews, or coordination workflows as well as working with multidisciplinary engineering teams Solid understanding of constructability, construction sequencing, and field execution challenges Experience in mining, oil & gas, or heavy industrial projects Preferred Qualifications Exposure to Safety in Design (SiD) / Construction Safety in Design (CSID) principles Participation in HAZOPs, risk workshops, or design safety reviews Experience with major EPCMs We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those who are authorized to work in Canada will be considered for this position and only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
