Description
Responsibilities Providing leadership, technical direction, resource coordination, and strategic planning for the Waste Process & Data Services department. Leading integration and collaboration with internal and external organizations to ensure operational alignment and compliance with the Waste Program. Driving the development of a world‑class safety culture with a strong emphasis on Conduct of Operations, within Waste Process & Data Services and at all waste‑movement job sites. Maintaining momentum of organizational change by leading management actions, offering strategic advice, and supporting process improvements to enhance safety, productivity, and employee competency. Coordinating operational readiness reviews by supporting the creation of commissioning plans and procedures and facilitating independent assessments for readiness and continuous improvement. Fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across the organization. Establishing and maintaining standards and policies for human performance, using industry‑best practices. Supporting Managers and Project Leaders in identifying and applying lessons learned, Operating Experience, and experience‑based learning. Performing other duties as assigned, consistent with expectations for all CNL Managers and as delegated by DWM Senior Leadership. Driving safe, reliable, and cost‑effective waste management by reducing risks and liabilities, supporting strong environmental performance, delivering projects on time and on budget, and strengthening community relationships through responsible waste practices. Qualifications Education : Engineering or scientific education and/or related background. Experience : Minimum of 10 years experience in the nuclear field. Demonstrated Program Management and Leadership Experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Strong management skills in strategic planning, setting priorities, project management, problem solving, decision making and all aspects of resource management. Ability to thrive as a member of a large, matrix project team working collaboratively with peers, staff and senior management to achieve project objectives in an environment characterized by frequent deadlines, complex decisions, competing demands and client scrutiny. Ability to hire, develop and manage technical and support resources to realize their potential and to make effective use of consulting services to deliver the expected results on a value‑for‑money basis. Strong communication skills, experience preparing concise strategic/technical reports, issues management and risks. Comprehensive understanding of the hazards and risks associated with the operation of nuclear waste facilities, including retrieval, processing/conditioning and storage, and significant experience overseeing the development of safety cases and performance assessments that together form the basis of regulatory approval applications. Security Clearance Eligibility Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.” Working Conditions Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty‑seven and a half (37.5) hour work week. Working in a complex, evolving technical environment requiring adaptability and rapid independent learning. Primarily office‑based at Chalk River, with weekly field visits to support and lead field teams. Semi‑frequent travel to additional sites (e.g., WL, DP, G‑1) for operational support, readiness reviews, training, and mentorship.
