Description
Position Staff Engineer, Data & Analytics Location Ottawa and Toronto, Canada – Hybrid. Remote available for Canadian locations. Responsibilities Modernise legacy systems into a cloud‑native, modern data stack using Informatica, Airflow, Postgres, Snowflake, dbt, BigQuery, Looker, and other up-to-date technologies. Build innovative, scalable, and reliable data products to support corporate strategy. Design and maintain batch and streaming pipelines for analytics, logging, and application integration. Implement rigorous data validation, cleansing, and error‑handling mechanisms. Partner with business stakeholders across units to design and deliver tailored data solutions. Collaborate with FinOps, Data Architecture, Data Governance, and Cloud Engineering teams to meet organizational needs. Troubleshoot complex data engineering challenges focused on scalability and reliability. Work in an agile environment, prioritise tasks, and deliver iterative solutions. Mentor junior engineers and foster their development. Deliver compelling presentations and data stories to influence leadership. Advocate innovative data strategies aligned with corporate growth and innovation objectives. Qualifications 7+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering or analytics engineering. Deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform and core GCP services, including cloud‑native storage and compute. Practical experience designing and operating lakehouse patterns at scale using Databricks. Hands‑on experience with dbt and layered transformation patterns. Experience with containerized or serverless services for pipeline scheduling and automation. Expert proficiency in Python and SQL with a focus on clean, maintainable code. Strong foundation in CI/CD, version control (Git), RESTful APIs, testing, and deployment. Proven technical leadership: mentoring, defining standards, and translating ambiguous requirements into scoped solutions. Cross‑functional collaboration experience delivering data solutions that drive real decisions. Nice‑to‑have: BI tooling such as Looker or PowerBI, Terraform, Ansible, FinOps experience, and SaaS environment background. Certifications such as dbt Analytics Engineer, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, or Looker Certified Developer are a plus.
