Tasks
Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions Professionalism in customer service Load and unload goods Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materialsOversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment Perform emergency roadside repairs Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle Perform preventive maintenance Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumptionTarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo Transport and handle dangerous goods Credentials
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses
Driver's License (Class 1 or A) First Aid Certificate Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate Experience and specialization
Documentation knowledge
Accident or incident reports Bill of lading Dangerous goods occurrence reports Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip) Maintenance and repair reports Trip reports Type of trucking and equipment
