This project is a crucial step in ensuring our academic departments, administrative offices, and student organizations have intuitive and on‑brand web presences. The Web Content & Design Specialist will play a key bridge‑building role in this effort, working closely with ITS, Communications, and site maintainers to transition and optimize sites for the new theme. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities - Collaborate with site maintainers to audit and prepare their sites for the theme migration, focusing on content quality, organization, and visual appeal. - Conduct technical and accessibility QA on new sites, addressing issues such as broken links, missing alt‑text, and proper heading structure to ensure compliance with WCAG standards. - Partner with site owners to re‑organize and simplify site navigation and content, leveraging the new web design blocks to improve user experience. - In partnership with the web analytics and training strategist, contribute to training and support materials that empower site maintainers to manage their sites independently. - Provide ad‑hoc design and content support to site maintainers throughout the migration process. Education, Experience, and Skills Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent full‑time professional experience, ideally with coursework in computer science, design, and/or communications. Minimum of 6–12 months of web writing and editing and front‑end website design experience. Proficiency with web design tools such as Figma for visualizing design changes. Practical experience with content management systems, specifically WordPress, and a solid understanding of HTML. Demonstrated knowledge of UX/UI best practices and a solid user‑first mindset. Understanding of web accessibility requirements, including WCAG. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, from technical staff to non‑technical site maintainers. Attention to detail. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to track progress on multiple sites simultaneously and meet deadlines. Curiosity and empathy. Ability to learn new technologies as needed. Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels. Preferred: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, to create visual assets for pages when needed. Experience working within a distributed web model or a large‑scale web migration project is highly desirable. Benefits - Generous 403(b) retirement plan with a 10% employer contribution and 2% employee contribution. - Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance. - Paid time‑off, including 25 annual leave days, 8 paid holidays, and extra days at the end of the calendar year to make a continuous week off before New Year’s. - Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for all employees. - Dependent tuition program after six years of service. Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Carleton College is an AA/EEO employer and is committed to developing our staff to better reflect the diversity of our student body and American society.
