Reporting to the Director of Care (DOC) and/or Assistant Director of Care (ADOC), the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides professional nursing care and supports the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered services. The RPN plays a key role in implementing Care Plans, delivering hands‑on clinical care, and supporting and supervising care staff to ensure protected, compassionate, and effective care in accordance with regulatory standards and company policies.Key Responsibilities
Resident Care
Assess and monitor resident needs; assist in developing and updating Care Plans. Provide hands‑on nursing care, including medication administration and treatments. Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required. Communicate changes in resident condition to RNs, DOC, physicians, and SDMs.Apply restorative care principles and responsive behaviour strategies.
Care Monitoring&Documentation
Ensure care delivery aligns with established Care Plans. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of nursing observations and interventions. Complete required reports, including incident and regulatory documentation.
Leadership&Team Support
Supervise and support PSWs and other care staff. Promote a cooperative, respectful team environment. Participate in training, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Communication&Customer Service
Foster positive relationships with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Communicate effectively across departments and with external care providers. Deliver compassionate, resident-focused care that supports dignity and independence.
Health, Safety&Compliance
Follow infection prevention and control practices and workplace safety standards. Comply with all applicable legislation, policies, and procedures. Participate in emergency response and safety programs.
Qualifications
Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), in good standing (or eligibility). Strong knowledge of medication administration practices. Experience in geriatric, retirement, or long‑term care settings considered an asset. Knowledge of responsive behaviour programs (e.g., PIECES, GPA) is an asset.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays. Compassionate, resident‑focused approach with sound clinical judgement. Why Join AON?
